Unhappy How the mother-in-law ruined our trip

It's taken me 3 months to get some of the magic back after a horrible trip with mother-in-law.

To sum it up: NOTHING was right in her eyes. The plane ride was too noisy
    Magical Express too crowded
Check in at Poly too slow
    Rooms too dirty
    Meal plan too expensive
    Parks too crowded
    Weather too hot
    People too rude
    Kids too cranky
    Rides too overrated
    Buses too crowded
    DTD too crowded
    Food too greasy
    Souveniers too expensive
    Pool too cold

On and on and on and on it goes......

My husband agreed that she was a real drag. It totally ruined the trip for us and our kids. We were so upset by the middle of the trip that we could not wait to get home. (how's that for ruining the magic?) We also vowed on the plane ride home to not go back to WDW for another 5 years at least - we were that put off by the experience.

Slowly though the fire is being rekindled - the kids want to go back this year - maybe, I don't know....but what I do know is NO IN-LAWs!!!

I'm so sorry to hear that. But as you know, some people can find issue with anything and everything, and for some reason thrive on complaining. Hopefully, you have a few good memories from the trip, aside from her complaining. And I'm sure that your next trip will be much, much better!!

Love my mom to death, but she would have been left behind if she started acting like that As for my MIL, she would never go anyway because of the smoking policy and no adult drinks at MK. Those are more important to her, and that is just fine with me.

Sorry you had a bad trip. It's funny what you learn or re-confirm about your family members. Some are not happy unless they are complaining. I feel your pain. Been there, done that.

This also sounds like my grandma!

I would go again with just your family. The second time around you will be able to realize what a fun place WDW is instead of being dragged down by someone that isn't happy with anything. The memories you will make with your family will hopefully last over the memories of the vacation you had with your MIL.

The ironic thing is, she probably didn't even realize how much she was complaining....it is that much of a habit/way of life for some folks.

My FIL is a lot like that. In fact, I don't recall the last time I heard something that wasn't negative or grumpy. On time during a visit, he started his sentence with "....Now, I'm not one to complain..." and before he could finish, me, DH and MIL were all laughing so hard at that absurdity that we drowned him out!

I feel your pain....some people just seem to always find the bad in any situation. It's for that very reason that I refuse to vacation with any of our family anymore. I love my family & my DH's family to death, but could not deal with them on vacation.

A few years ago, my DH's sister & her husband went to WDW with us. They drove us CRAZY. She is always sick , always complaining, and has to be the center of attention at all times. She's tried to invite herself on our last 2 vacations, and we purposely go while school is in session because her husband is a counselor and can't get off work.

Just try to put the whole MIL incident behind you, and look forward to a trip where you can recapture the magic.

I'm just praying I never get like that! I work with people who constantly complains from the minute they walk in the door in the morning. Definitely sets the mood for the day.

Definitely go again without MIL and you'll have a great time.

We honeymooned at WDW and since then it has been "our" place. We let the kids come along now that we have them but no other family is allowed for just that reason, the fear that they will ruin our experience there and taint our happy WDW outlook. We've vacationed elsewhere with in-laws, but WDW is off limits.

The kids are now Disney fans, too, and I just hope that it can stay a family tradition and we'll be willing to vacation with their partners, grandkids, and whoever comes along from here on out.

I'm sorry you had this bad experience and I hope you recover quickly. I think the best thing is to go back in a hurry without the extra family member.

Ah, the terrible too's.....Some people never grow out of them.

Don't wait too long to go back. In five years, your kids will have five more years of her reinforcing her negative position, and you will have five less years of WDW Magic.

    Sorry about the experience.

I would think that my son-inlaw and your mother inlaw would be a great couple.

I took him and my daughter and granddaughter 2 yrs ago. I footed the entire bill, car rental ect. and he complained the entire time.

Guess who isnt going again on my dime.

I would go back and enjoy the family time together. I went with my brother and his family in 1989 and would not do that again either.

Family time is the best time.

I can agree at how frustrated you are about it. Unless she paid for the entire trip for everyone, you and your DH needed to step to the plate. You should have given her an ultimatum and/or told her to go home. The other option was leave her some where and go on your way. WDW cost far too much to have to put up with the @#$%.

I would have told her DME is free and jump on the next bus to MCO to change her ticket to the first flight out.

I am sorry you had such a bad trip.

That just makes me sad. I really like that my husband and I go alone with the children. We already know what to expect from each other. Last time we took my parents and had a good time but it was at a slower pace since my dad has cancer (he also had pneumonia during the trip but he didn't know it!) I would let my parents come again but that's where I would have to draw the line.
