ADR, can they be done now??

Okay, even though I have been to Disney dozens of times this is the first year we are considering the dining plan. As the other few million people we are waiting for the announcement for the free plan, rumored to be late Ausgust into September. We even moved the date up for the chance at the free plan. We usually go in the middle of October. My question is this. Can I make ADR now to get the choices we want or do I have to have a confirmed reservation at the resort first? 180days in advance seems like a long time but if the plan does turn out to be free, I can imagine the rush for reservations will be crazy. Any thoughts would help.

You can make dining ressies now, if you are at least 180 days out. Remember, people not staying on property make dining reservations, too, so you don't have to have accomodations booked (you just won't be able to take advantage of the 180 +10). Your reservations will be linked to your phone number.
