Eh. I’m souring on her. Wrong song and was off key. Not horrible, but going first she’ll be in trouble.
Paul McDonald – 1984 – “I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues” by Elton John
OUCH. He is SQUEAKING today. I think Jimmy Iovine was right. He’s born to sing his OWN songs. He does have a unique quality to his voice but it just doesn’t work on other people’s songs for me. And I stand by what I said last week, his moves just look awkward without a band behind him.
Thia Megia-1995- “Colors of the Wind” by Vanessa Williams from Pocahontas
Oh my. Before hearing this song I just know it will come off pageant like. I do love this song and find myself singing it in the shower often but I just don’t think it’s going to work for me… And its’ not. Is she trying to look like Pocahontas with that styling? And she messed up one part. I honestly think she sounded better when she was singing in the intros. I like that she stood up for “The Vocal Coach From Hell.”
James Durbin-1989-“I’ll be There For You” by Bon Jovi
Oh no the tail is back. At least it’s kind of off to the side a bit and not coming right from his butt! Once again he surprises me with his restraint. Pyrotechnics on the Idol stage! All right!!! I think he’s my favorite now.
Haley Reinhart- 1989- “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston
Again not a great song choice especially for someone who was in the bottom. She’s doing a great job of keeping up with the fast pace of the song and there flashes of a great voice in there. I wish she’d try something bluesy/rock n roll. I’ll give her one more chance to wow me if she stays around. EESH poor thing has lipstick all over her face while the judges are critiquing her.
Stefano Lagone- 1989- “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” by Simply Red
His best performance yet. Very passionate. I liked it a lot.
Pia Toscano-1988-“Where Do Broken Hearts Go” by Whitney Houston
Can we talk about her outfit for a minute? I really don’t think it’s very flattering. It kind of made her look pregnant from far away. Well it was more upbeat but I think she could’ve picked something better. She has a great voice, there’s no denying, but she needs a song to get some swagger on to.
Scotty McCreery-1995-“Can I Trust You With My Heart” by Travis Tritt
He has great pitch control. He will definitely get a record deal out of this. I don’t know what else to say. Just not my bag, baby. Hopefully he gets to do some of that Elvis stuff another week, that would switch things up a bit!
Karen Rodriguez-1989-“Love Will Lead You Back” by Taylor Dane
ZzzZZzzzz oh sorry Karen was putting me to sleep again. She doesn’t have a bad voice but it’s just missing something. Her high notes sound a bit forced. (As an aside that’s the one thing I can’t stand about Katy Perry) Aannnnd there’s the Spanish again. Look, I like some Spanish in songs but don’t force it in everywhere. It didn’t really seem to flow with this one.
Casey Abrams-1991-“Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana
Oh man. Are they trying to make it look like the sweaty gymnasium in the music video? This guy is CRAZY. Like, I’m going to murder you in your sleep crazy. At least he makes the show interesting, that’s for sure.
Lauren Alaina-1994-"I'm the Only One" by Melissa Etheridge
It was pretty good, better than last week I thought, but she seems a bit nervous. Maybe it was just some of that exhaustion from having the flu.
Jacob Lusk-1987-"Alone" by Heart
This could be interesting. Wow. It was all over the place. I was kinda digging it until the key change then it became a hot screechy mess. Yuck.
