We're a mid 40s couple who like both cruising (NCL and P&O) and Disney.
We are tempted to combine these two likes and go on one of DCL's Hawaiian cruises departing from Los Angeles.
However, we have a concern about feeling out of place on what is essentially a family orientated cruise.
Is there enough adult areas/entertainment to keep us occupied whilst on board?
YES there is plenty of Adult entertainment on board. MY teenage DD was in the club the entire time we were on board so basically my DH and I both in our forties were on our own.
This was one of my major concerns when I sailed DCL for the first time less than 2 years ago! I was doing a girl's cruise and there were 4 of us adult women.
Let me tell you, it was one of THE BEST cruises I have ever taken. Other than not having a casino, I didn't feel there was a lack of adult entertainment/space. (I am not a big casino person, so this was not an issue with me) We actually had our favorite spot near the adult pool, each day. At night we enjoyed the lounges. We particulary enjoyed the Karaoke! I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life.
I, personally, never felt as though the ship was over run with children. I'm sure that should be attributed to how wonderful the kid's clubs are. Those cast members keep the kids busy day and night :mickey:
I have since sailed Disney several times, each time with a group of adults. It's one of my favorite trips to take :D
Husband & I went on a Disney cruise (in fact our very first cruise ever) and there a things for adults. We are planning our next Disney cruise for May 2012.
We did not feel overwhelmed with the children on board. We had a wonderful time and can't wait to cruise with Disney again:thumbsup:
We did the Magic without kids. It wasn't that bad. Our biggest complaint was the wait for the elevators. The kids were using them as rides, so they took forever. Usually I walk everywhere, but we were with folks that needed to use them.
Plenty of adult activities though...
We've done 6 DCL cruises, only one of them involving two of our grandkids (early teenagers), and every one has been great. And I suspect the Hawaii cruises, being 14 days long, won't have many kids on board.
There are plenty of adult activities available; check your daily Navigator for details. And there are plenty of opportunities for just kicking back and chilling, especially on a long cruise like that.
Me (26) & my parents (55) & (58) will be taking our second Disney cruise in January and we love DCL!
We have never felt out of place or bombarded by children. We love the family atmosphere that DCL provides because it feels safe & we truly enjoy the family atmosphere.
There are plenty of adult only areas on board, but honestly the kids are so in love with their special "kids only" areas of the ship, that even if you decide to "venture" out of the adult only areas, the kids are not really that noticeable.
We would never cruise with anyone but DCL! :sail:
I agree with Ed above, I just do not think that a lot of kids will be on a 14 day cruise especially since it is during the period that school is in. I could be wrong, but from the people I know that have booked, its been all adults. Not that I know a lot - but I do know a few LOL.... Plus I don't think a lot of people working can take 14 days off of work at a time. So I expect it to probably be an older crowd on the cruise.
Just returned from the Caribbean on the Magic which sailed on the 24th. The ship had just returned from the "Med" for the summer the morning of the 24th and it's Transatlantic return.
The crew noted that the "Med" does not have the nearly amount of children on them that the Bahamas and Caribbean sailings have due to the cost of the flight for one and the length of time away even though the "Med" cruises are typically 7 days. The same goes for the Transatlantic sailings also.
I agree with the earlier poster that a 14 day Hawaii cruise will definately have less children due to the length of the trip.

We did take our children (ages 4 and 7) and vowed that our next Disney cruise will be withOUT them so that we can have more time to devote to all the wonderful adult activities. :secret:
(They did go to the kid's club twice and LOVED it; did not want to be picked up either time.)
Seriously, the place was not overrun with kids, most kids - with the exception of my daughter - were well-mannered, and we really are planning to go back for some alone time without them, so I'd have no hesitation telling anyone to go without kids.
