As a huge Springsteen fan ever since I was young I always appreciated the contribution that Clarence made to the E Street Band, in the studio, on stage and as Bruce's great friend.
When I first heard the sax solo on Jungleland it blew me away. It's such a beautiful piece of music. To see them in concert was always a treat especially the way Bruce & Clarence bounced off each other.
Very sad to see someone pass away that you have admired for most of your life but will always have his music.
Rest In Peace " Big Man" and Thank You.
Clarence was the man ... saw him play many times and he was stunning. He'll be missed.
So sorry to hear this. First Danny and now Big Man! Play on Big Man:(
Another big Bruce/E Street fan here. Very lucky to have gotten to see them quite a few times live. Clarence was fantastic- brought the house down. His sax was part of what made their sound so unique, and all the greatest E Street songs have memorable saxophone parts. You will be missed, Big Man! Rest in Peace.
I'm glad, as a super huge Springsteen fan, I got to see Clarence perform in person several times in the last few years...
RIP Clarence.:mickey:
Another big fan of Bruce & the E Street Band
I like many on this thread was lucky enough to see him play live and this man had "presence" on the stage .He didnt even have to play on stage but the just walk forward and the crowd would cheer.
His saxaphone playing was powerfull and meaningfull . To steal a line out of the Blues Brothers when they were getting the band together again ...
Clarence was "the heart and soul of the band and made it breath " and he made what essentially was a back up band to the main singer just as important .
He will be clearly missed and thanks for the memories Clarence :beer:
Just to add
Someone at my work just said
Bruce without Clarence at his side
Is like
Batman without Robin
beautifully put :thumbsup::D
Ahhhh but Batman has been written into plenty of stories without Robin... And the current version of the Batman movies are much better without Robin...
Sorry, couldn't resist... Bruce and the Big Man WERE the E Street Band... CC is a part of the band that cannot be replaced...
It'll be hard to think of Springsteen's band as the E Street Band with of Clarence.
When the change was made uptown
And the Big Man joined the band
From the coastline to the city
All the little pretties raise their hands
I'm gonna sit back right easy and laugh
When Scooter and the Big Man bust this city in half
With the Tenth Avenue freeze-out
