Is Oak Manor the closest of the mansions to the front desk and gift shop?
It's the closest mansion, though close sort of depends on where your room is in the building.
We're going to book preferred so hopefully that will get us closer, I just wanted to know what building to ask for.
POR can make booking very tricky.
The preferred rooms are in the Bayou sections, and are buildings 14, 15, 18 & 27. These rooms (especially buildings 14, 15 & 18) are indeed quite close to the Main Building and pool.
Oak Manor is one of the Royal Room buildings (along with Parterre Place). These flank the bridge to the Main building and bus stop, and are both fairly close (depending on exactly where your room is located).
This doesn't mean that you won't get Oak Manor if you ask, but it is also likely that you'll be in a preferred room, which does not include the mansion buildings.
Oh boy, I like the looks of the mansions better than Alligator Bayou but I don't want to take a 20 minute hike just to get to my room.
I was in Building 85 -- Magnolia Terrace, pool view, last year and found it to be very close to the front desk/gift shop/restaurant/lounge. Just walk across a bridge to Ole' Man Island, then another bridge to the Mill (front desk/gift shop/restaurant/lounge). At a good pace, maybe 5 minutes. Taking it slow and easy, maybe 10. Loved the location!!!
Thanks I'll take a look at that building.
Note: New roof is currently going on Magnolia Terrace. Alligator Bayou is the only area with preferred rooms. Bldg. 14 is the closet to food court. Also, preferred rooms can be a parking lot view.
My mom is paying for this trip and originally said she didn't want to pay for a Royal Room...she has relented so hopefully we will be close.
Oak Manor (if not in a standard view room), is actually very close to the main building. I stayed in that building each time I've stayed in a royal room. I was always booked in garden view, on the river side of the building and my room was step away from the foot bridge. It was only a 2-3 minute walk. I actually used the South Depot bus stop instead of the East because I felt it was less of a walk. I always request Oak Manor because of it's location to the main building.
Thanks for the information. After much, much discussion we have decided to go with a regular room river view and hope for the best.
