View Full Version : If you Just bought WDW.....

I know this isnt realistic, but lets pretend it can actually happen:)
Ok so if you just bought WDW what would you change about it?
hmmmmmm I would have to say the only thing I would change is the price. Disney isnt really all that expensive but I would make it a tiny bit more affordable so everyone would have a chance to experience it:mickey:

I would get rid of the Stitch ride, and all those blinding, blinky, twirly light toys that they sell everywhere as soon as the sun goes down.

Easy. Monorail. Everywhere.

To me, when you see the monorail zoom by, that means WDW.

I would, at a minimum, have all Parks & Deluxe Resorts directly on the line. Simply for expediance of the monorail line itself, I would have a stop "nearby" the Mod and Value Resorts, but not actually at the resorts.

Exactly what I was thinking except it would be all resorts and replace the bus system. Monorail, train, something similar to the TTA. I just get very frustrated with the buses.

Wow, this is a really fun idea!
I think my first matter of buisness would be to bring back dream flight (I realize that this is totally selfish since I'm probably the only one that wants it this way, but hey I bought disney, let me live a little!) I'd keep Buz Lightyear too, but I dearly miss dreamflight.
Next I think I'd restore imagination to it's original glory.
I'd double the pay of every park employee (not the suits just the park workers, I have no idea how much they make, but I have a feeling it's not enough especially consittering the magic they put in everyone's day!)
I'd insist that imaginears immediately begin blueprints for the "fifth Villian Themepark" everyone dreams about.
I'd extend the monorail all the way to Orlando International Airport and of course to all the parks, resorts, DTD, and everything else.
Ooo, I'd add Ireland, Egypt and probably a few more to the world showcase.
And I'd have themed hotels for each WS country. And I'd have a value Princesss themed resort that doesn't seem "value". I'd open a delux Hollywood Tower Hotel with all the glory of old Hollywood next to MGM.
AND, I'm sure I'd be bankrupt by this point, but that wouldn't stop me from throwing a KILLER anniversary party for Epcot!
:cloud9: That was fun!

1. I would extend the monorail. That was a great idea.
2. I would create the ability for all photo pass photos to be viewable on your in room TV, with the ability to choose which ones you want, email them, etc.
3. I would expand DtD past the West Side and create more TS opportunities with some theme park restaurants there so you do not have to go to that particular park to enjoy the TS.
4. I would strike a deal with DirecTV, DISH, Comcast, etc., to carry the WDW Resorts channels so we Intercotees can watch them anytime we wanted to.
5. I would strike a deal with Sirrius satellite for channel to play nothing but WDW audio.

Just a few ideas....

I don't know what I would change, but if I owned WDW, I would ride my favorite rides after closing time.

The TTA is great. I would have one of those connecting everywhere, so you don't ever have to wait for anything... hmmm... maybe you would have to wait because there would be a line of people waiting to get on... let me think about that one some more.

I love the idea of having an actual Hollywood Tower Hotel next to MGM with the 30s glamour and all that jazz. I would love to see that and stay there.

If nothing else, I would like there to be busses between DTD and the themeparks and from the TTC to EVERYWHERE. That's what the place is there for! I don't think the monorail is that great anymore so I don't know if I would do anything with it.... Maybe if I spruced it up, you know, got them all clean and sparkly, and added more so there weren't always lines from MK. That'd be cool.

I would make sure that the CMs were always nice and I would kick anybody out of the park who used foul language or smoked where they weren't supposed to. I would change Main Street USA back to how it used to be, with seperate amazing stores, and the Penny Arcade. Each land, park, hotel, etc. would have lots of specific merchandise you could only find at that place. I used to love all the goods in Frontierland, but alas, therein lies pin stores and more of the same.

So much to do, when do I start???

I'm guessing I'm loaded if I just bought WDW. I wouldn't change a thing but I would invite all of you, my Intercot friends, to come vist and stay for free:thumbsup: Hey, we're pretending right?;) :mickey:

I don't know what I'd change, but I'd probably never leave! :cloud9:

Actually, I'd change Drew Carey's Sounds Dangerous to something far more entertaining, like, I don't know, maybe paint drying! Yes, that's it, I'll have a guy go in and paint the room every day, and we'll all watch it dry. Boring, yes, but an improvement for sure! :bored:

Seriously though, I'd probably add Australia and The Americas to AK, put some thought into the Imagination Pavilion, and revive the Hollywood feel with some cool attractions at MGM. :dizzy:

This is a great thread. I know I'll be thinking about it for days. I agree about making Main Street a little more unique and less "mall-like." And if there must be SO many shops in the parks and rides make them more unique and special. Actually since I own it, I would take away the ride stores that you are forced to drag your kids through after the ride trying not to buy something. I would overhaul MGM to make it more charming and fun to walk through and add rides suitable for kids and non-thrill seekers. I would go back to all cm employed by Disney and expand training. And I would just have a ball playing in the parks!

This would be the MOST awesome thing, Me, owning WDW......

Monorail goes everywhere.......

I'm so addicted to the ToT movie and ride that the idea of an actual hotel. Helloooooo, yeah. However, I would live in the penthouse suite......

More exciting rides at AK.....

The big things I can think of have been hit upon. The monorail to MCO would great! I think it would have more appeal than the current Magical Express.

Also, a ToT hotel....how cool would that be? Is it pathetic that I am 32 and still like the little ToT movie from Disney Channel?

mmmm....so much to do with my new Kingdom...

For starters:
Beastly Kingdom land at AK would finally become reality.

Pooh's Playful Spot would get replaced.

Stitch Encounter would get replaced.

Sounds Dangerous & ABC Soundstage would give way to a new attraction.

2 new countries would be added to Epcot.

Upstairs of Imagination pavilion would be re-opened.

Wonders of Life pavilion would be re-opened with new attractions.

That's just my 1st year in business...

I love the idea of extending the Monorail to all resorts and the airport.

I would rip up all the asphalt/cement walkways and put in that squishy padded stuff. Then add moving sidewalks along all the main drags of the parks. We have been home 3 months and my feet still hurt;)

I would get rid of the ADR system and go back to same day ressies with the exception of CRT.

I would put slides in all the pools regardless of level of resort.

Fast Pass Machines would be located throuhgout the parks so you don't have to hike clear to the ride then elsewhere for a couple of hours until it is good.

Kids 12 and under stay at any Disney resort hotel and get into the parks for free. Might be hard to prove some kids ages though.

Have the monrail at least go to all of the parks making it easier to park hop. Not like it's really that hard now. Maybe incorparate some kind of lightrail system (works great here in the twin cities) would be cheaper than the monorail, wouldn't be to hard to make it go to orlando airport kind of goes along with Walt's love for trains.

Like the post above me says, maybe get fastpasses for any ride at any ride. Make all the fast pass machines have touch screens where it would give a list of fastpass rides and the current return times then you just push the button of the ride you would like a fastfass for but keep the limit to one fastpass like they do now.

To the Parks, I would:
- Replace Ellen & Energy with an "Explorations Pavillion & Ride" that takes you on a ride through the great discoveries & hardships of the explorers (culminating in space exploration).
- I would restore Imagination to the old version

In General, I would:
- Start a program called "Youth Disney Helper Camps" & let kids come to camp at Disney where they would be allowed to work at Parks for a week.
- Only allow motorized wheel chairs for truly needy/disabled persons. (I know it would be difficult/impossible, but it's all hypothetical anyway.)

1. Find a new location for the TTC, extending monorial service to all of the parks and deluxe resorts at least, including transfer to a high speed bullet train to MCO.

2. I agree with the idea to turn Main Street back into what it was intended, AT LEAST bring back the old time theatre with showings of Steamboat Willie etc.

3. As much as I love Epcot, sometimes I just want to say, tear it down and build what Walt had intended, E.P.C.O.T.

4. As much as I love MGM, give it the attention to detail it deserves...or tear it down.

Don't get me wrong though, I can live with Walt Disney World just the way it is!

there have been some good ideas here! my top ones would be...

1. expand the WS. I'm thinking Brazil and Russia.

2. Expand the monorails or or at least double up the buses so the wait times/crowd factor is reduced.

3. Completely revamp MGM/DS to make it an "all day" park like MK and Epcot. It could use some attention!

M.K.- Expand the TTA to cover the entire park. Do this in a way that looks "right".
Epcot- Boy i sure miss Horizons and If i had wings, Id bring em back better than ever!
MGM- Make it more of a thrill park...give folks that option at Disney even more so that we now have.
A.K. Add more Dark rides!!
Thats just a few of my ideas..

I would make more reasonably priced resorts for large families...families with 5 or more people. We have a family of 6 and the cheapest way for us to stay is either tent camp at FW Campground or 2 separate rooms at a Value. POR can handle our group since the youngest is just 3 months at this time, but those rooms are small for that many people.

The other thing I would change are the way they handle discounts. I would make discounts across the board for everyone's use as other theme parks do and are starting to draw a bigger crowd because of it. I think Disney is making a big mistake by offering 40% discount to some but not all or mailing out promotional discounts only to a select few. If they're going to offer discounts to draw more people to the parks to book up the rooms they should allow everyone the same chance. They'll sure book up those rooms fast that way. Disney will recoup the money from the discount offered with the money people spend on souvenirs, food, etc.....

1) Pay raise for all lower managment and hourly cast members. Bring back the Disney Way training for all cast members. Foster a we are a Disney Family amongst all cast members so that they are rabidly positive about their park, the history of Disney in entertainment, each fellow cast member and visiting guest.
2) I'd give the maintanence castmembers the respect they deserve for their care in preserving an American Icon.
3) I'd drag John Lasseters butt to WDW and ask him to please work his magic on Walts Dream Park and plan for a Big, Bright, Beautiful Tommorow.
4) We'd throw a 25th EPCOT Aniversary Party! Bring back Figment. Invite Steve Jobs to EPCOT and see what could be showcased as cool futuristic technologies.
5) Never lose site of the man and his ideas that made all this possible and try to continue in that vain.

-More Monorail- check!
-More countires in WS- check! (oooo...iked the Australia, Brazil, Russia ideas...)
-Restore Main Street- check!

Up the pay- Oh I wish! I made $6/hour for the honor of being a college program student working the food carts/counters/retail etc.

Buff up Studios- YES YES YES!
Get a Studios hotel like the tower of terror that you can walk right over from(like Epcot). Get a Studios ride that kicks the Mummy and Spidermans butts simultaneously!
MORE ENTERTAINMENT! I love the entertainers there now and besides the stunt shows would love to see more acts similar to Epcot- unique things out and about all over.
Spoof the Rocketeer for a comedy act, get some swing dancers out and about, bring Carlos the Sword Swallower over from the Boardwalk, any kind of magic never hurt a soul, either (ok, just watched the Prestige last night).

Bring back Captain EO- HA! just seeing if you were still paying attention!

MAKE CINDERELLA'S SUITE AVAILABLE BY LOTTERY AFTER THE YEAR OF A MILLION DREAMS PROMO IS OVER!

I wholeheartedly agree. I would also stop DVC from messing up landmarks like the CR.

I would send my pollsters out into the parks with their digital notebooks to ask guest opinions on existing attractions, accommodations, transportation, food and beverage, etc. and evaluate the responses on an ongoing basis. Based on those responses, I would incorporate the most cost-effective and feasible suggestions along with the future plans for development of the parks.

1.I would first start by putting Snow Whites Scary Adventures back.

2. Add More Countries to the World Showcase Like Russia, Greece, Egypt, India(Taj Mahal : )!) , Turkey, Austrailia, Spain, and Possibly Portugal :). Maybe even expand America and add two cities like NYC and Washington D.C. where they could have Popular spots like Statue of Liberty and a a Capitol Building.

3. Put in more dark rides with movies like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast!

4. Add more Monorail Destanations.

5. Put a Lion King Section onto AK and put some new rides in Adventureland.

6. A new string of hotels that were well themed.Like a Aladdin Hotel or Tarzan.

7. Build the Beastly Kingdom :)

8. Rebuild a new spot for Tarzan Rocks :mickey:

9. Put in a new Horizons Pavillion.

10. Have a Figment Cast Member.

Add more dark rides/boat rides (like Haunted Mansion or Pirates) to AK and DHS

Replace Dinoland, World Showcase movies (except America Adventure), Universe of Energy, and Captain EO. Replace with some kind of dark, boat, or thrill ride.

Add more WS countries

Replace Pirates of Caribbean with the Disneyland version

Import Pirates of Caribbean, Mr. Toad, Indiana Jones, and Cars Land from Disneyland

Put more nightlife in DTD

Replace buses with monorails

I would pack up Tomorrowland Speedway and stuff it all in the Odyssey Building thereby killing two birds with one stone: find a use for the Odyssey building and rip up that noisy, smelly waste of space in tomorroland.

Fire the knucklehead who made the deal with Nescafe and forbid that person from ever setting foot on any Disney property anywhere in the world as a warning to others who might think about switching from real to fake coffee again!!!

1. Get rid of the the fingerprint scanners.
2. Get rid of the useless bag checks.
3. Refurb- Splash, Jungle Cruise, Norway.
4. Redo the Mexican Pavilion, order the construction of Russia.
5. Add cars land, add the indiana jones ride,
6. sign off on more resort and ride specific items.
7. Sign off on extended sized clothing. 2xl isn't big enough for some of us..
8. Assign myself 200,000 shares of disney stock. :)

First off I would remove the Hat from the current location in the Studios and probably place it outside the gates just prior to the ticket booths. Then, I would start having meetings with the Imagineers and start looking at all their good and great ideas and start a plan for instituting at least 3 projects per park, without the influence of the bean counters. Next I would immediately stop the farming out of products and bringing back things made at WDW.

There would be a lot changed. First, if I bought it, there would be no shareholders (i.e. I bought it, it is mine). I would have a team of actuaries to estimate the cost of running the entire place the way it was run back in the 70s. Figure out the total cost, align the cost of resorts, tickets, meals, etc. that will allow me to operate like that. Then, determine how much is necessary to keep everything pristine and excess to expand.

I would stop building new resorts. There is enough space on site and off site already. Make sure all resorts were properly maintained inside and outside.

Special event parties would be limited to a set number 5000-10000. I am not sure what the number is, but it would be very small so it is worth it. I would close the park completely 1 hour prior. Guests with bands get shuffled to Tomorrowland and Fantasyland. All others are escorted out, not like what is done now after the first 5 minutes.

I would easily change park crowd limitations and ride lengths. In my opinion there should be a week or two span that every tour group goes at the same time. As for rides I think the wait times on some of them are ridiculous. Although the line entertainment is neat and all, I feel as though it slows people down to stop and look causing a back up in the line.

i'm going to try to be realistic. so here are a few ideas.

1. i would find an incentive plan for my employees to educate them selves about everything disney related. I want my employees to be able to tell guests Walt's birthday if they ask, his children's names. I want them to be able to tell guests what year the attraction they aer working on opened, the last time it was renovated. etc.....
2. Love the idea about the monorail to WDW. not sure about the monorail to the resorts. I am not sure how practical that is. Also I don't like clutter and tracks all over would be cluttered. for now i would look to the monorail from MCO to the travel center.
3. Instead of monorail to all resorts, i might look at an improvement from the Buses. Maybe some sort of cable car that would go from each resort to the parks/ DTD. if we could design it so that it doesn't have to follow the road, it would clear up the roads and also make traveling on teh cable cars much quicker.
4. Anyone abusing the EVC system will be asked to quit using it or asked to leave. LIkewise, any one so insensitve to suggest someone is abusing it or complains, when they have no idea what that person is going through will be asked to leave the park.
5. tighten up the park by removing some rides, and adding others. I'd get rid of EO and have imagneers come up w/ something that goes along w/ today's trends and uses today's technology. get rid of the Stitch ride.
6. I would add a couple Countries, not sure which ones. I'd have people make suggestions and go from there.
7. Understanding that Disney is a business and there's nothing w/ making money, but it is also dependent on my cast memebers, and my #1 goal is to make people happy. I would hire an economic team to come up and help me maintain a budget where i can take 10% percent of profit and filter it down to the cast members, 10% for me and the board, and the rest goes to development and maintaining my park. i would want them to find me the most profitable, yet reasonable prices to charge. An empty resort room makes me no money. I would rather that room be given away free, and that way they would spend money in my park.
8. Find a way to incorporate Lucas Films and Mavel into the parks.
