We did this experience (Savi's Workshop) at DL in October. It was fun, but here's my $.02.

First off, it's $200 a person, and you have to have a reservation to do it. Each person who is building may have up to two (or three?) guests with them. This is the only way to get in.

If you have your reservation, when you show up for your time/date slot, you pay before you go in. At that point, you will pick one of four types of lightsabers:

Peace and Justice
Power and Control
Elemental Nature
Protection and Defense

There is a "menu" of sorts, and also physical pieces there for you to look at to see what the options look like. When you choose, they give you a pin that you put on that represents your style.

When you go in to the workshop, you will pick a building station, and once everyone is situated, they start the show. The assistants look at your pin and then place the proper lightsaber pieces in front of you. It consists of a common lightsaber core (that contains the electronics), two pieces that cover your Kyber crystal and includes your power switch, upper and lower hilt pieces, an emitter (top piece of the hilt) and a lower cap (bottom piece of the hilt). You will have multiple options to choose from, but each lightsaber has those pieces.

They will also talk about the kyber crystals and what each color represents, including what famous Jedi or Sith had those particular colors on their blades. You get to pick from green, blue, violet, or red. There is also a store in SW:GE where you can buy kyber crystals, including white and yellow.

When you've chosen your crystal and you have your pieces, they will show you how it goes together. Once everyone has assembled their sabers, the assistants come around and attach them to a long tube at your station. Then they will have everyone grab their hilts at the same time, and power up the lightsabers all together. When you do that, your tubes light up, and the then the tubes open and allow you to raise your lighted saber.

That's pretty much the end of it. On your way out, they give you a padded zipper case with a shoulder strap to carry your blade in.

The saber is 43" long. The padded case is about 44" long (when the end is closed). It will fit in an overhead bin in an airplane, but it will have to go in diagonally. It doesn't fit flush against the back, if you know what I mean. So, we just took over one entire overhead bin, put our three sabers in there, and then put our backpacks in front of them so that it filled the rest of the space, and no one would try to jam their carry-on in and break the blade.

The hilts are metal, but not polished steel. It's almost like they're coated to give more of a eggshell finish. The blades are polycarbonate with LEDs inside. If you get other color kyber crystals, it will change the color of your blade, as well as changing the sound effects your saber makes when you ignite it and turn it off.

Now, that said, in that same store where they sell the kyber crystals, they also sell saber hilts from the characters in the movies/cartoons. You can buy the replica hilts for Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Darth Maul, Obi Wan Kenobi, Rey, Mace Windu, and other characters from the Clone Wars and Rebels cartoons. Those hilts ARE polished stainless steel and look really cool. They do not come with blades, but you can buy the blade separate, and then the combined price for that winds up being about the same as the ones you build yourself. Of course, you cannot customize these with other kyber crystals.

I hope that helps. I like mine, and it was cool to have on Halloween when we dressed up like Jedi for our church's Halloween party. The kids loved it.
