EPCOT Cast have recently reported that an internal ceremony was held collecting water from the Fountain of Nations prior to its drainage and onset of demolition.

Two vessels were filled with the water to ceremonially "preserve" the original water from twenty-five bodies of water (representing 29 nations) that was poured into the fountain on opening day. For the ceremonial preservation, the Walt Disney Archives loaned the original vessels representing the nations of Mexico and Switzerland.

Although the exact use of the preserved water has not been clarified, it has been internally announced that it will be used in a new water feature in the park.

The following are opening day pictures of the original water pouring ceremony:

The water preservation is a nice touch, and I hope it becomes part of a new fountain after the renovations.

It's so odd seeing grass around the fountain. I had to do a double-take and re-read the closing line.

I'm so glad they saved some.

I'm sorry to see the fountain go. We were in Epcot one Saturday and the fountain was up and running. Two days later, it was shut down and most of it was screened off.
