Hi there Intercotees,

I have been a member of this site for a long time. More than 16 years I think!

In my early years on this site, there seemed to be a large amount of posting, conversations, and lots of fellow travelers along for the planning and discussing ride.

Not sure when it happened, but maybe 8 or so years ago, I came back when planning a new trip and noticed that there appeared to be a significant drop off of activity.

What caused the change? Just the passage of time? More competing websites? More avenues for information sharing about Disney?

I happen to think that what John and crew do here at Intercot is very special and top-notch. Every time we get ready to plan a trip to WDW or DL, this is my first stop for information.

Just wondering if anyone has some insights, or is it just the passage of time....?

I really enjoy this community.

I agree, especially trip reports. I REALLY miss those.

A lot of it has moved to social media. I prefer the discussion board myself, even though there is a lot less discussion and some of the regulars aren't so regular any more. I also miss the trip reports.

Certainly miss the trip reports. I remember some pretty epic discussions about particular rides, details about resorts. Spent a lot of time debating in a friendly way....

Good memories.

I do hope people continue to find this place.

This is my first post here. I was a member at Passporter for many years. The site shut down December 31. I miss it.

The same thing happened at Passporter. I also miss trip reports.

What happened? Facebook!

I am not on any social media, and while I know I am getting left behind, I can only waive as it passes me by.

I cannot stand the layout of Facebook and the lack of any organization to it. Scrolling down your timeline looking for an old post in hopes of finding a specific conversation is awful.

But these young kids today....:old:

Lol. I use it to pass the time when I am bored, but I agree that it can be difficult to find old posts. I prefer these discussion boards.

Social media probably has had a large impact, but even the "discussions" on social media are rarely real discussions. Social media is mostly people just announcing things at each other. My sister and SIL talked me into joining FB a few years ago so that I could share more pictures of the girls. It certainly works great for that - but it's often a hot mess where questions about vacation planning could very easily get lost. It's certainly no replacement for forums like these.

I absolutely think Facebook is the biggest culprit. Facebook has become the first thing many people automatically check. Instead of searching the internet for sites like this, people just see if there's a facebook group first- and there are plenty of them. So when they have questions, they post in a group rather than come to the boards. I am as guilty as anyone. Even though I much prefer this site and miss the old days, sometimes it felt like talking into the abyss and I rarely come on here anymore. Also, checking message boards was part of my routine when I had a desk top and now that I rarely access the internet via computer anymore, I'm not an active participant. I'm only checking things out now because I'm alone at my parents' house with time to kill and I'm on their computer, in the exact spot where I signed up for this site some 16 years ago!

:old: In my day . . . . . we didn't have newfangled social media platforms . . . . . and, I liked it! :funny:

Way back then, we got together in groups and sang protest songs like "The times they are a-changing"; only to realize that when we got old, we didn't like change so much. :bang:
