Favorite thing to do that is not in a park

We have an extra day to do something. I was wondering what is your favorite thing to do during the day that is not in one of the parks. I need some good suggestions.

There are a lot of things I like to do that aren't in the parks, actually. I can spend an evening walking on the Boardwalk. I usually stop into Jellyrolls when I do for an hour or two. I'm not a big drinker, but the dueling pianists are very entertaining.
I also usually block some time to wander through Disney Springs. There are usually different shows playing on various stages. I also like to browse through the art and Christmas stores.
I would like to finally get around to playing miniature golf on our next trip.
Sometimes I'll go explore one of the other resorts.

We like resort hopping. You can do the three on the monorail Grand Floridian, Polynesian and Contemporary then hop a boat to Wilderness lodge. Boat back then catch a bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge then take a bus back to Hollywood Studios and take the boat to the boardwalk area. You can sit and relax taking in the sites or just travel around. We just did that in March and it was a very nice way to spend a day away from the parks but still inside the magic.

You have some great suggestions above with Boardwalk, Disney Springs, mini golf, and resort hopping. Something else we enjoy doing (although it won't take that much time) - we love to go to the marina at CR or Poly and rent a boat - usually a pontoon boat, sometimes the sprites. It's a fun way to spend 30-60 minutes on the lake on a nice day. Maybe grab some snacks on your way to the dock and enjoy lunch out there!

Like others that have already posted, if I have some free time during the day, I will go visit a resort or two and explore. In the afternoon or evening, I will go to the Boardwalk.

I always enjoy resort hopping, but one of my favorite resorts to visit for down time is the Grand Floridian. Sometimes, I'll start with lunch in the GFC followed by relaxing in one of the comfy chairs and people watching, and definitely enjoying the pianist during the afternoon, and sometimes the orchestra later in the day. I always have my refillable resort mug with me, to keep hydrated during my adventures.

We love spending time at various resorts enjoying the fireworks from a distance. But honestly my favorite out of park make or break my trip is seeing the Electrical Water Pagent. It just takes me back to my early visits to Disney when things moved slower. We also enjoy several signature meals since we never do those things at home. Food is just another aspect of a good Disney vacation for us.

You can also have a spa day, do The Void in Downtown Disney, horse and carriage rides, Horseback riding at Fort Wilderness, the dinner shows, fishing excursions, tea at the Grand Floridian, Chip & Dale's Singalong campfire, there's outdoor movies at night at some resorts, and night vision goggles at Animal Kingdom Lodge,

It depends on our budget. I like to see the Hoop-do-doo at FW, and you can take a horse drawn carriage ride in the same area. You can also take a carriage ride at Port Orleans, and see Yehaa Bob preform.
If you visit Disney Springs early in the morning, Aerophile (the balloon ride) and Splitsville have early morning specials.
On our next visit we are going to play at one of the mini golf courses, and I would like to experience one of the campfires.

Are you on property? Hang out at the pool. There are games and contests for the kids. Lounges and beverages for adults. We did this a couple of trips when our grand niece was younger.

As mentioned, tho it's in the evening, the Electric Boat Parade is always a high point.

Another favorite is sitting on a rocking chair at Crockett's Tavern at Fort Wilderness. There is an awesome playground just beside the Tavern.

Some kids of a certain age merely need to be pointed in the direction of the arcade.

My two favorite things are having a drink served to me by Liz at the outer rim at the contemporary. After almost 70 trips, she recognizes us and it is sweet. Another is seeing the animals at akl. I can spend half a day reading the notes by the artwok and watching the animals. Night vision is spectacular!
