Flight of Passage with motion issues??

So I scored a pair of FP this am for FoP. I absolutely want dw to experience it. I am reluctant to join her. I have watched the film and it appears that there are quite a few drops and swoops. My question is how much actual movement is there. Is it a situation where I could just close my eyes and it would mostly go away?

Any input is appreciated

It feels like you are riding a banshee. I don’t have issues but my daughter can’t do 3-d movies because of the motion. She did FoP and loved it. No issues at all.

Can you do Soarin’? If you can then you should be fine with FoP. But yes, you can close your eyes and it mostly goes away...your physical self is not swooping....

Yes, I can do soarin -- BUT the drops do bother me a bit. I am just not sure if I can handle 4 minutes of it

We just returned from WDW. So, I absolutely can NOT do Mission Space but have no issues at all with Soarin and love FoP. My niece can do Mission Space but will never do FoP again. She was a complete mess after the ride [emoji17] We all think it was just way too much "bouncing" around because she closed her eyes for most of it.

I closed my eyes on the drops, but had no problem going up. I was worried about getting nauseous, but closing my eyes for a few seconds here and there did the trick. If you know you won't be able to handle it, don't go. If you're not sure, try it.

The DDs and I all have motion sickness issues. We've had a lot of success avoiding it by taking Bonine. It's non-drowsy and lasts most of the day. We all did Soarin' without Bonine and were fine. So I'm guessing this one will be similar. But, you could always try it with Bonine if you're worried.

Oh! I didn't know you weren't supposed to drink when you've taken Bonine. Good to know! I've never been in a situation where there was a possibility of the two being combined, so I never thought to check.

I'd like to point out that Disney REALLY tries to scare people about the intensity of this ride - and I feel it is unwarranted.

I have ridden it several times and a new feature they added a few months back is that when you enter the queue, they give you a plastic card to take with you that basically tells you the ride is a motion ride that can make you sick. It also has the usual warnings about "not for pregnant women "and "not for those with neck or back problems", etc. As you walk through the queue, you're supposed to read the card - and then you return the card to a cast member before you get close to the boarding rooms.

They do not give these cards out for the other WDW rides that are WAY MORE intense (Everest, Space Mountain, etc.) - it's almost like they want to scare people.

Simply put - this ride is not really a "ride". You sit and watch a screen - but your seat is very much like you are on a jet-ski - only you are not in water. Your feet are solidly on the floor of the "jet-ski" and you have handlebars to hold in front of you. You can lean forward a little if you like - but you are basically seated upright the entire time. The jet-ski moves slightly in sync with film - but it is nothing at all like a coaster. The action is all simulated movement on the screen - and if anyone would have an issue with what's on the screen - they could just shut their eyes - and then it would feel like they are sitting in a chair while their eyes are closed.

Thanks to all for the encouragement. I really want to experience this attraction. However, I recall the time several trips back when I really wanted to experience Mission Space. That little adventure put me in bed for two days. I just donn't want that to happen again. This seems like a different animal. I am planning on giving it a try.

I don't think Mission Space is a proper comparison. FOP is not in closed spaces and doesn't have the same motion concerns. Many folks I know won't do certain attractions (like MS or even Soarin'), and they had no issues with FOP. Hope you go for it and enjoy the experience. It's a very unique and fun attraction.

The one that gave me the most trouble was the Body Wars ride in the (now defunct) Wonders of Life pavilion. Can anyone compare FOP to that?

Body Wars was very jerky. Flight of Passage is not like that; it's very smooth.

So glad you posted this. We were discussing whether DDIL could do FoP or not, because she can't do 3D movies. No It's a Bug's Life for her, which gives me an excuse to skip the spiders.

I've never done Mission Space, but tried Star Tours once and it made me horribly sick. There's a huge difference between FoP and ST. FoP is not enclosed and hot. You're in a huge space with lots of air blowing in your face and great smells. There is lots of swooping, but I was moving my head to look around and take in all the scenery and was totally fine. We all agreed it was the most amazing ride we've ever been on!

Well, I did it. I took a dose of Dramamine and closed my eyes on a couple of the big drops and survived the thing. I would encourage just about everyone to try it. Actual motion is very minimal and closing your eyes should take care of anything for you if needed.

I am nervous about this ride also. They have air blowing at you?? That would actually help me. I can ride Soarin no problem. I won't do Mission Space, Star Tours, Tower of Terror or Space Mtn. Hopefully I will be ok on this one. The part that really worries me is fitting into it. We have fastpasses for the end of our trip. We're hoping to rope drop and get on first thing on our first park day.

They have a test vehicle in front of the ride so you can see if you fit. Have fun.
