A Disney Parks & Resorts representative has made an Official Comment regarding Paint the Night and Walt Disney World:

Future plans have not yet been determined, but at this time there are no plans to bring “Paint the Night” to Walt Disney World Resort.

8/10/16

Disney Parks & Resorts have announced that the Main Street Electrical Parade will end its run at the Magic Kingdom and then have a limited run at Disneyland:

The Main Street Electrical Parade, Magic Kingdom Park’s long-running nighttime parade, will officially end its historic run at Walt Disney World Resort on October 9 and then head to Disneyland Resort for a limited-time encore engagement.

Despite initial speculation of a coast-to-coast "trade", a separate announcement has revealed that Paint the Night is staying at Disneyland at least through the 2016 Holiday Season for "select performances":

“Paint the Night” parade will continue nightly performances through September 5 as part of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration ... this popular parade will return on select nights during the holiday season later this year.

Although Paint the Night could be planned to move to the Magic Kingdom after its round of "select" performances at Disneyland; based on the apparent coast-to-coast change time for the Main Street Electrical parade, it appears the Magic Kingdom could be dark for a nighttime parade from October through Late March 2017.

Another speculated/rumored scenario would be for Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: Dreamlights (probably renamed ;) ) moving to the Magic Kingdom with Paint the Night moving to Tokyo Disneyland. The rumours/speculation have not included the fate of the Disney Paint the Night parade currently at Hong Kong Disneyland in this "trade" scenario.

I would love, love, love Paint the Night to come to WDW! I wanted to see it in Disneyland but ended up not getting to. We will be in Disney in Feb. Doubt it would debut that soon, but a girl can wish!!!

I cannot imagine the idea of having no evening parade for the holidays.

I'd really like to see something like an electrical version of the daytime Fantasy parade or Spectro -like parade back.

I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be no replacement. So many of the street entertainments and experiences at the Parks are going extinct. :(

Hadn't thought about the holidays. Would Disney not run its Christmas parade during the holidays?

Personally, I am amazed that MSEP lasted so long. It was originally only supposed to be back for one summer (2009 if I remember correctly), but was so popular that Disney decided to extend the run.

The more I think about this the more bummed I get, the young lady who is going with us in January has never seen a nighttime parade in the MK, we had her so excited about it. I really hope there is a replacement

Any word on whether this affects the electrical water pageant that can be seen at Poly, Contemporary, etc? I hope that continues

As far as I am aware the two don't have anything to do with each other. I would expect the electric water pageant to continue as normal.
