We are arriving at WDW on a Saturday and staying one night at AS Sports.
We check out Sunday and then check in for 6 nights at CBR. We have a MYW package with park tickets for the stay at CBR.

Question - do we have to check into CBR on Sunday in order to gain theme park entry on Sunday? Or can we just check out of AS Sports on Sunday, switch to our CBR magic bands, and head to the theme parks?

As long as your park tickets are connected to your bands, you should be good to go. No need to check in first.

The response to your question has less to do with which resort you are staying at as it does when you'll have access to your park tickets. At some point, you'll have tickets and/or FP+ and/or dining reservations in your MDE account. Your magic bands point to that MDE account, not to a particular reservation or a particular resort. You wouldn't even need to "switch to CBR magic bands" - if you're getting 2 bands for this trip, either should work at any time if you link them to your account.

You'll need to find out how to link those packaged park passes to your account.

There was a time when you had to "check-in" at the resort to activate the package. So, you had to swing by and do that before heading to the park.

I'm assuming that if you've done the online check-in, then you will be good to go, since the tickets are already linked in your account. But, can someone confirm that? Does it matter if you haven't completed on-line check-in, would you have to swing by the resort in that case?

Or, since everything is MDE now, is it all just there and waiting?

And, about the bands, both will be active with all of the same information linked. Some people, when they are getting two (or more) for a trip get different colours and have fun matching to their outfits, or just changing it up based on how they feel. You can use either band at any time.
