I didn't see anyone specifically commenting on this? Here's the brief description from the Disney website:

"Guests also will also climb aboard Hyperspace Mountain, a reimagining of the classic Space Mountain attraction, in which guests will join an X-wing Starfighter battle."

Will it just be Space Mountain with light images of TIE fighters running across the roof?

It's an overlay. There will be projections and music. Not a huge makeover, but I'm sure fun nonetheless.

A permanent overlay or just for special occasions?

Just temporary. To be running during Season of the Force, which will debut some time "early 2016". No further details regarding dates or length.

But, I can tell you I will be there to ride it on the first day it comes online! This sounds great!

Temporary, or maybe occasionally is a better phrase. It will run during Season of the Force, which will apparently be a hard ticket event.

Also, I think this is only at DLR not WDW.

OK, I didn't catch that. Good to know. I do LOVE Space Mountain at DL. I had the opportunity to ride with the Ghost Galaxy layover. These are super cool effects. I hope I get the same chance with this special.

Dislike!

I don't know how they'd do an overlay (or a good one) at WDW, since music is such a big part of it. With the built in speakers on the ride vehicles at DL, it's such a different experience.

Agreed. DLR SM is far superior to WDW SM.

Oh what a bummer that this won't be at WDW :( I actually am going to Disneyland in two weeks and it's a shame that this wont' be going on then. Man, what a ride that would be...with Star Wars music... why did I have to read this post...now I'm sad... I guess a whole StarWars land 2 hours from me will just have to make up for it! ;)

Has it been that way for years? Maybe a future refurb for Space Mountain?

WDW SM has had a refurb since DL had theirs. There were hopes it would be the same at WDW, but it's not.

Yes, it has been that way for several years BUT it was "down" for 2 YEARS to refurbish it to be so good.

WDW doesn't want to shut down Space Mtn for 2 years...

Would love to see it at WDW but not if it's going to be a hard ticket event.

I'm not convinced that Seasons of the Force will be a hard ticket event. It is being called a new version of Star Wars Weekends, which is not hard ticket. Plus, I think it would be problematic to run two versions of Space Mountain simultaneously, as those overlays require a change in programming as well as signage and other themeing.

Edited to add: According to an official Disney spokesperson, Season of the Force will NOT be a hard ticket event. There was a string of comments and questions on the Disney Parks blog page where someone asked specifically. The response was: "Actually, all of these experiences will be included with park admission. No separate ticket required!"

Great to actually know. Hard ticket events aren't for everyone.

Thanks for checking in to that. I had the same thoughts that they wouldn't be switching the presentation back and forth between daily admission time and a special ticket time. Even less likely that they would close Space during regular hours.

It is very hard for WDW to do overlays and special events on rides. DL is, for the most part, a locals park. So, most of the visitors have seen the regular rides and look forward to the change to Haunted Mansion Nightmare Before Christmas and the other events they do.

There are too many first time, only time or once every few years visitors to WDW for them to take a ride and change it for a brief time. Those people want to see the ride as it is, not something that is temporary.
