Starting March 12, Aloha Isle (home of the Dole Whip) and Sunshine Tree Terrace (home of the Orange Bird and the Citrus Swirl) will switch places, menus and all.

This is supposedly to accommodate the ongoing construction as they prepare the Adventureland Terrace restaurant for opening (re-opening).

I think this is a good move. Although I personally like Citrus Swirl's better, they are not as in demand as Dole Whips. It's always been congested in the Aloha Isle area as the walkway thins out there and the smoking area is right across the way. There is definitely more room to spread out back at the other location, and maybe they'll even have more than three registers/windows if needed. :papple:

Bad experience at Sunshine Terrace this past January. Several lines, we chose two different ones to be safe. One line didn't even move and then when I finally get up to order, the CM tells me, sorry this line doesn't take the MagicBand (we had snack credits). I didn't go ballistic but was ready to. She moved me from line 1 down to 4 or 5, which then got the woman already in line upset.

I have no idea what was going on, but it was not good.

Locating the Dole Whips adjacent to the Tiki Birds is similar to the location at DL.

With the relocation, the tough decision will be - Dole Whip before the show or after, or maybe both :blush:

I think switching locations will help (the line for dole whips is always so long)

In the long run, I think this is a better location for the Dole Whips. The Dole Whip line has been the most crowded part of my last two trips! (I also prefer the Citrus Swirl, but DH loves his pineapple!)

Better yet, let us bring them INTO THE SHOW! DIsneyland does! :papple:

I'm for anything that makes it easier to get a Dole Whip. I skip them much more often now than I used to because I can't bear to wait in line. Or I visit the Polynesian. :)

How does swapping the locations help with the preparations to open the Adventureland Terrace restaurant? I would think that the best course of action would be to simply combine the 2 at Sunshine Tree Terrace that way the Aloha Isle area would be completely open and not impinge on the work needed to be done there.

IMHO, I would love to see them permanently combined at STT - It would combine 2 of my favorite treats into one location and more importantly, 1 line to wait in!

I wondered that myself on the latest podcast which should be out this weekend if not sooner.

I don't understand how it's going to help to switch places if that is the objective. Because of it's location, people will just stop and get a orange swirl. I think the location next to the tiki room is hidden a bit because of the flying carpets. I can't see this helping with flow or crowds at all and have to wonder if there is a different reason behind this.

Here is the official word from Disney:

Never fear, the Dole Whip is still here. Starting March 12, the menus and names of Aloha Isle and Sunshine Tree Terrace are swapping – Aloha Isle (same menu) will shift to Sunshine Tree Terrace behind The Magic Carpets of Aladdin, while Sunshine Tree Terrace goes to the Aloha Isle spot across from Swiss Family Treehouse. Aloha Isle still has the Dole Whip Float, Dole Whip Cup and Dole Whip Twist Cup. (And the fresh-cut pineapple!) And Sunshine Tree Terrace will keep its Citrus Swirl, soft-serve vanilla ice cream, piña colada slush and other drinks. Fans of the Orange Bird don’t need to worry – he will be settling into his new home in a few weeks.

Turkey leg fans need to know their favorite snack is leaving Frontierland and Liberty Square – but look for the legs in Tomorrowland at the Cool Ship starting on March 25.

So from that article, looks like Aloha Isle will be open tomorrow in it's new location, and Sunshine Tree Terrace in a few weeks.

Why are they moving the turkey legs:confused:

Okay so let me cover the obvious first ... "futuristic turkey legs?"

And I guess I'm in the minority but I see this as being a bad idea. Sunshine Tree Terrace is tucked in a fairly congested little corner of Adventureland. There's that walkway there through to Frontierland and you get a good bit of traffic passing through there. The Dole Whip crowds seem to me like they'll make a big mess of getting through that spot.

That is so weird. No turkey legs in AL? Not that I’ve ever tried one. :rotfl:

I just read on the Disney Food Blog that Magic Kingdom may seriously be considering opening up a new restaurant in Adventure land based on the Jungle Cruise. It's still a rumor, but they said there are construction requests submitted for this area.

Between the recent snack bar switches and not this, perhaps there is some truth to rumor, after all!

Can't wait to see what's next!

Yes, last month figment reported the construction permits were filed. See thread here.. http://www.intercot.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=208082, but the rumours are more centered on "what theme will it be?" CM's are speculating Jungle Cruise. Pirates and Adventurer's Club are other ideas I've heard rumored.

Edited to add - Jungle Cruise for the win!

Who else sees this happening?

The vast majority of people will not know the difference, and will enter AL with the marching orders to "Go get that frozen stuff, its on the way to Pirates, You'll see the line, You cannot miss it"

And there will be the same long lines, congestion and as an added bonus, disillusioned patrons because "This tastes like Orange, Meh"
