We live in NC so travel the BRP yearly. Our must do is Moses Cone State Park. It's a beautiful plantation home, with short or long hikes, canoeing, and horseback riding. Gorgeous! We did mess up during our trip hehe. Meant to take the 1 mile hike and ended up not following the signs and it turned into a 6 mile hike. Uphill. It was still fun though :)
