Is there a way to get this off your machine? I downloaded Google Chrome and ended up with this too. I've changed some security settings and adjusted some other things and can minimize the problem, but it still pops up now and then.

You can remove it but it is one of the aggravating ones. Try this:

Download and run "RKill" What it does is stop malware processes from running so you can attempt to isolate and remove the malware. Often malware looks for tools we may use to kill and remove it and attempts to prevent us from running them. RKill stops the malware and prevents it from attempting to stop us from removing it.

If the malware prevents you from running RKill. You can download RKill that is named differently so hopefully the malware won't see it when you try to run it again. If you can't get past this step because it keeps recognizing them, you may have to download RKill on another computer, rename the file, copy it to a flash drive and then insert the flash drive in the infected machine and run it.

One note: Once you run RKill, if you reboot the computer, you will have to run RKill again because the malware will restart after the reboot. Keep that in mind as you proceed.

Once you successfully stop the malware using RKill, download and run the free version of Malwarebytes Antimalware. Select full scan and let it run. See if it finds and removes Doubleclick. If so, you should be all good. If not, let us know and we can try some other things. It may require digging into the registry and removing the registry entries Doubleclick made.

In the future, only download from known reputable sites. You may have downloaded Chrome from a download site that has been compromised and doubleclick was added to the download. Also, when installing software you downloaded, always pay attention to the prompts asking if you want to also install other add on software packages (Ask.com is often included). Just uncheck the boxes because they are often checked by default. If you are unsure what something is and whether or not you should allow it to be installed, do not proceed with the install. Cancel it or just stop and do some research on the software it is asking to install.
