8 year Manager of the Detroit Tigers steps down. Says " it's time"!
Any thoughts?
I have nothing but respect for the 68 year old manager.

He's a class act -it sounds like he is going to accept another position somewhere. I'd prefer it if he actually just retired ...some guys stick around too long and don't know enough to get out, but maybe he'll end up with an analyst position at a network.

Loved him when he was here in Pittsburgh. Great guy, great manager. I wish him well wherever he lands next.

Actually, he's not retiring, but is not going to manage anymore. The Tigers front office said on Monday that he will "have a different role within the organization". Leyland himself has stated that he wants to finish his career as a Tiger.

The big question now is, who will replace him as manager? Will they promote from within? Theve got a couple of good candidates aready on their staff, or will they go hunting outside the club for someone?

Eveyone here in Michigan is talking about it today!

I always liked the guy but felt bad for him. Every time he'd build up a playoff caliber team, they'd garage sale all the players and he'd be left with nothing. I think that happened to him in both Pittsburgh and with the Marlins.

Seems like a class guy. Got to see him and the Tigers the last week of the season when they came to MN to play my Twins (we actually won that game). Good to see Tori Hunter again, too bad he missed the World Series again.
