1. Heat and Humidity - Of course, we DID choose to go at the end of August. However, we decided to stay late at the MK one night to see the Celebrate the Magic show and the fireworks. Our older kids, having not been there in three years, had never seen the show. To get good seats up by the castle, we had to pretty much stake out our spot a couple of hours in advance. We sat while our kids went off and had fun. But our littlest one (8 yrs old), came to be with us for the last hour. She wasn't feeling good. We sat her down and got her a popsicle, but it got worse. The ground was probably about 130 degrees, and we think that she was suffering from Heat Exhaustion. I went to get her some water, but there were lines at the concession stands, and it was so hard to get anywhere with all the people. They hadn't yet established the walkways to allow people to move around. In the end, we sat through Celebrate the Magic, but then started to try to work our way out during Wishes! I carried her through the air conditioned shops along Main Street, and then to the Monorail. Got her back to the hotel and in bed, and she was fine the next day. But I was a little worried there for a while.

2. Eating late at O'hana - Well, the late part just meant we were tired. For some reason, we weren't terribly hungry, either. By the time the meat came around, we were pretty full. I tried some shrimp, and it was awful. Way overcooked. Tough and chewy. It was the first time in ten years of eating at O'hana that I didn't like the food.

3. DisneyQuest - Well, the kids liked it fine, but as adults, we hated it. Every "virtual" ride made us motion sick, the sports games (like Hoop Shot and the football QB game) were worn out and needed new balls, and when we tried to ride AstroBlasters, it went down. We spent about two hours in there, and that was more than enough. I probably would have liked it better if all I had done was played video games.

4. Waterparks - We only ever made it to Blizzard Beach, though we tried it twice. The first time, we got there after lunch, went in, found a place to put our stuff, and then walked up the slope to get in line for Teamboat Springs. After being in line for about ten minutes, a storm hit (we were hoping it would miss us), and they closed everything. We tried to wait it out for about 90 minutes, and then finally gave up and left. That's when we went to DisneyQuest. We went back the next day and rode pretty much everything at least once, and then left about three hours later. It was fun, but we never felt motivated to go back or to try Typhoon Lagoon. We had added the "Water Parks and More" option for the first time ever, and we just didn't want to use it after those experiences.

I'm sorry about your daughter. The same thing happened to me on our first August trip. I didn't have nearly enough to drink and by the end of the night actually sat down on the ground and started to cry I felt so sick.

A lot of liquid, and time in AC made me much better, but it is a challenge of going in the summer.

Oh yes, some of our hottest moments in WDW have been at MK waiting for Wishes to start. I think the area just gets way to congested with people and air can't flow making it feel very stuffy and hot.

That's too bad about Ohana's. We have eaten there on every single trip since we started bringing our kids and have yet to have a bad meal. I would be so upset to have a bad experience there. Hopefully it was just an "off" night.

Agree 100% about DQ. My boys loved it, my husband and myself (as well as my mother) hated it. It's just not "Disney" in my opinion.

Sorry you didn't enjoy the water parks. My family's favorite water park is TL. Although we did enjoy BB too. If we had to pick just one it would definitely be TL. The wave pool alone is worth a trip to TL.

I should say that only the shrimp was bad. The chicken and pork were both excellent. As were all of the other things that they bring before that. But we just didn't have the appetites like we usually do at O'hana. And the bad shrimp didn't help.

We did actually enjoy Blizzard Beach, but not enough to be motivated to go back, or to try Typhoon Lagoon. Besides the wave pool, everything else seemed fairly similar to the rides at Blizzard Beach.

Too bad AstroBlasters was such a bad experience for you; it's my favorite thing there!

Couldn't say whether it was good or bad, honestly. They had just run it, it was our turn, we got in the vehicles and got buckled up, and then when the CM went to activate it....nothing. She threw her hands up, and then asked everyone to please exit the vehicles, etc, etc. It didn't come back up while we were there. I would have liked very much to have tried it. It looked great.

We did the waterparks for the first time in a number of years and had lots of fun - but we arrived fairly early in the day and only spent a few hours or so there.

We did notice folks staking out spots for the evening parade/fireworks very early.

It is so easy to get dehydrated (even when it is so moist out) and when you add in the heat and level of activity, it can be a real problem. Glad your daughter was better by morning.

Crush 'n Gusher is what makes TL for us. I haven't had that much fun on a ride, in the theme park or out, in years. And like Denise's family, we enjoy TL much more than BB.

Sorry about your daughter...glad everything was ok..good idea weaving in and out of the AC down Main Street. It can be so hot in August but ironically it's one of my favorite times to go.

Too bad about Ohana also, I have heard so many reports about the food not being up to par lately. We have eaten there many times and it has always been good. The last time We ate there was in August 2012 and the food was great.

Haven't been to the water parks in years.

45 days and counting!!!! :joy:
