Not happy about this. I've never had to cancel, but it just seems like yet another move away from what WDW USED to be known for: stellar customer service.

After the way we were treated when our flight was canceled in October due to Hurricane Sandy, I have started to really get a bad taste in my mouth. Long story short, we were looking to stay 2 extra days and wanted to add days to our ticket (not FREE tickets, just adding onto our existing tickets)~we were told by multiple CMs in advance it could be done, but the flight was canceled last minute right after we checked out and thus we were told because our tickets were part of a package and we checked out, we were "out" of the system and would have to start all over again. We got bounced all around only to be told the same thing. So, we left WDW property and ended up driving all the way back to Philadelphia. I wrote emails, and they even played phone tag with me for a week just to say "Too bad, so sad, nothing can be done. No one can override the system."

We have a short weekend planned to run the 10K at Marathon Weekend and meet up with Intercotees, but after that, we will be doing some serious thinking as to where we spend our vacation dollars moving forward. .

They are making you purchase the ins. If you cancel within 2 days something major has happened in your life it's not just a well I don't think I want to take this trip now.

Just to clarify this is only geared towards "packages" right now not room reservations right? I know what it says above, but I just wanted to make sure.

I hear ya, Maryanne! What a runaround for you guys. I remember you drove back, but didn't know the circumstances. That's ridiculous they couldn't override that.

I'll still head west for my Disney fix, until of course all this WDW silliness hits Disneyland. Hoping it doesn't!

Chris, any word whether the current hurricane policy will still be in effect?

Also, I think the $200 applies to 2-44 days not 0-44 days.

Yes, this is correct. The 0 was a typo.

Hurricane Policy is activated on a case by case basis and they can change it case by case. So until we cross that bridge we will not know what the policy is. (You cannot find that info in any of their terms and conditions)

I don't want to get too far off topic but it was a nightmare. I was choking back tears in the lobby of Pop Century because I was so frustrated. We were going to be stranded for 2-3 days until we could get a flight, which is why we ended up driving, and it was really stressful! I know people who have gotten comped tickets because the monorail broke down and made them miss a dinner reservation. Here we were, being polite, actually wanting to pay to add on days and they wouldn't let us. As everyone knows the difference between days 5 +6 on a multi-day pass and starting over at day 1 is huge! I'm still pretty irked over it. We aren't the kicking and screaming type (maybe that's why nothing was done). My email was polite but strongly worded. They emailed me back making it seem like something would be done, kept attempting to schedule times to call me, and when I finally got the phone call was utterly pointless.

LOL. I guess so.

What I find interesting is that it is not/never has been listed in their terms and conditions, but on its own where it can be altered at their whim.

Before purchasing the insurance, check with your credit card company (if you're charging your package). Often you'll already have coverage through your card.

I avoid all this nonsense by simply not ever buying a package.

Room only reservations, at WORST, you'd be out only one night's deposit.

We don't do the DDP, so doing a room only reservation and purchasing tickets separately works just fine for us.

Agreed! We had moved away from packages... and now I think we are officially done with them.
