We live in Texas, so I'm looking at booking our family of 4 on a cruise at Christmas (New Year's actually...) this December before they leave the port at Galveston. There are only a few staterooms left at each category, according to the DCL booking site...

My questions- is it still going to be worth it, since we'd be getting the "leftovers" of available staterooms? Do we need a larger, exterior or a verandah stateroom? Or would we be okay in an interior room to save money? It looks like only the 2nd seating for dinner is available at this point - is that going to be okay? Would we get to see the shows before dinner? I'm not a Night Owl - I can deal with a late dinner for 4 nights, but not going to a super-late show afterwards.

We've never cruised before, so I have no idea what I'm doing. But I REALLY want to take advantage of the DCL before they leave Galveston, if possible! Thanks! :mickey:

I say any cruise is worth it... I won't do an inside stateroom. I'd go outside with verandah everytime. I tihnk people book the lower categories with hopes of getting upgraded. the DCL ship will sail full...

Shows are normally before dinner with a 2nd seating. So, movie and dinner instead of dinner and a movie. I like 1st seating.

I would highly recommend doing it, especially when you can do so more conveniently and more affordably right in the Lone Star state vs. traveling to Port Canaveral etc.


The show is before late dining so you could head to the stateroom after that :cloud9:

No worries on the later dinner seating. I've done both, and each has its ups and downs. The later seating can be quieter, since most families with the younger ones will try to opt for the earlier seating. It also gives you some extra time between returning from your shore adventures and sitting down to dinner, depending on whether you see the show or not. You won't miss anything -- activities, shows and events are scheduled to accommodate everyone regardless of dinner seating, and all can be completed before 10 PM. :)

As to interior staterooms -- I'm not personally a fan, but it does depend a bit on the details. If you're on one of the ships that has "magic port holes", you won't miss the window because you have a screen showing you the exact same thing, and with bonus character appearances! Even without that, unless you are severely claustrophobic or extremely sensitive to motion sickness, an interior room is unlikely to be a problem. There's plenty of light in the cabins, and they are good sized compared to other cruise lines. If you or anyone in your family gets motion sick easily, just be aware that sometimes that can be a problem if the ship is in motion and your eye doesn't have a reference to match what your inner ear is telling it.

I vote GO! Holiday cruises are some of the best!
