I was at Target today. I saw an Acer computer. Has Windows 8 and a good amount on the hard drive and memory.

Does anyone know if Acer is a good brand? It was only $249 and this may be the only time for me to get a new computer. Right now I have a Compac Presario which is about 4-5 years old.

I have an ACER aspire I bought 4-5 years ago and it is still going strong. No problems what so ever.

We bought an Acer a couple of years ago when our Dell broke down and they wanted a fortune to fix it. It has been consistently reliable. I would recommend it.

I have an acer, have had it for about four or five years now, had bought it at walmart for like $210? I pretty much figured if I got a year a two I had my money's worth. Well, still going strong. Outside of a pixel issue with the screen which is my own fault for having dropped it, it's been great, can't complain at all.

I bought 2 Acers for my TVs to run Windows Media Center. They are running fine after over 2 years and they are a terrific value.

You'll probably have more issues with Windows 8 and IE10 than the computer itself.

I as well have had my Acer laptop for about 4 yrs now and no issues at all.

I have bought my daughters IBM laptops for school and I think that this one is better that theirs and I paid a lot more for theirs.

Go for it.

As others have said, you'll have way more problems with Windows 8 than the computer hardware. You think Microsoft would have learned something from the disasters that were Windows Me and Vista, but apparently not. Even more perplexing...Windows 7 is fantastic.

We are planning on purchasing a computer for my DS's birthday in a few months. Probably will be buying an Acer, since they have the best prices. I work with computer maintenance at my job, and I have always felt comfortable with any operating system, but I am quite nervous about Windows 8. And, IE10 has been a nightmare for me as it isn't compatible with the filtering software we are using (net nanny.) They say it will be compatible in about a month.

Echoing everyone else, they seem to be a pretty good deal and a decent machine. Parents have had a desktop for a few years, and a friend got a laptop over a year ago and there have been no issues.

I don't think I can post specific links, but do a search on Windows 8 revirews. CNet is a really good site for researching all types of electronics and they do a good job of explaining the pros and cons of what they review. In a nutshell, it's hard to find things and not like previous versions of Windows at all. It's not as "user friendly" as they advertise.

Windows 8 is their universal windows operating system. In other words, the windows you use on the computer will be the same one you would use on their tablets and phones. It is more suited for latter two. It is nice and pretty and responsive for touch screens but it is awkward to say the least for non-touch screen electronics.
