How does one go about getting a room in the Toy Story section of ASM? It has been years since we've stayed at ASM, but my son is feeling nostalgic and wants to stay there this summer. I know you used to just request that section and hope for the best. How does it work now?

If you set yourself for a preferred room you will have better luck but sadly you cant ask to be placed there they don't even know where you will be staying until you check in the day you get there

You can always make a request for a particular area. However, there is never any guarantee just because you asked. But at least they know that is where you would like to stay and perhaps try a bit to get you there....

As far as "how" to do it - have it noted on your reservation, either by the CM if you book directly through Disney, or by your travel agent. That works a lot better than faxes or any other method.

Does it have to be a preferred room?

It might not have to be but toy story is a preferred building. like i said your odds will be better if you set it that way

A preferred room costs $10-15 more a night (see the 2013 pricing matrix here: http://intercot.com/resorts/disney/rates/default.asp). The Toy Story buildings are preferred so booking a preferred room should increase your chances. Be sure to have your request for a Toy Story room noted when you make your reservation.
