We had a late reservation of 8:40 PM for a group of 14, arrived right on time and were seated after a few minutes wait. They did split us up, into a group of 9 and a group of 5, but the tables were side by side with some us right next to each other. Nine is the standard # of people at a table, and although you could maybe squeeze in one or two more, you're not getting 14 around one grill / table.
The decor was very nice, but it did feel crowded a bit, particularly at the entrance, which it shared / overlapped with Tokyo Dining. Very similar layout to various "Benihana" like restaurants. Simple clean Japanese decor.
The wait-staff was excellent. Very enthusiastic service from waitresses and our table-chef. The serving staff was very attentive, quick to refill anything we needed. For our kids, they modified the chopsticks into "trainer" chopsticks with a rubber band. Easy to do and the kids loved eating with them.
We had planned on getting sushi before dinner, but due to splurging all afternoon at the food and wine fest, none of us were hungry for appetizers of any sort, so I cannot give any info on sushi or appetizers, other than a side salad with ginger dressing. This salad is always a must for my wife, so she ordered it. It was excellent.
The chef who cooked for us on the grill at our table was very fun and interactive, giving lots of attention to us all. She had lots of funny jokes too and overall a great presentation.
The entries we got were all very good, and included the steak, shrimp, scallops, filet mignon and combo choices. Great noodles were stir fried for us along with lots of assorted veggies and white rice. Everything tasted truly yummy.
We did notice that for the price, it is definitely "less" of a complete meal than what you would get at a Benihana's. Miso soup and salad with ginger dressing which are standard-included at most of these types of restaurants (we've been to lots of Japanese steakhouses) were not included with the entrie at Teppan Edo. Again this was not a problem for us as we were not extremely hungry due to food and wine fest snacking, but for someone hungry who has preset ideas about what a Japanese steakhouse meal looks like, they might be disappointed. Of course, they make those things and you could order them, but they were not included as the standard options for the dining plan.
That said, we loved Teppan Edo and would highly recommend it. Very fun experience and great food.
