Lake Tahoe

I'm booked for a week at Lake Tahoe in the beginning of June, 2013. Any advice?

You can rent sail boats, or learn to sail, or just have a sunset sail, at sailing ventures,South Lake Tahoe at camp Richardson. A cute campground with cabins(they book up super fast)and a nice beach to swim. Also, just west of camp Richardson is a dog friendly beach.
There is Vikingsholm and a few other "mansions" to explore.Also on the Nevada side are a few secret beaches and coves! No crowds but you have to hike to them...be warned some are clothing optional!
Plenty of shops and restaurants, and gorgeous scenery all the way around the lake! Great for riding a bike or hiking, kayaking, parasailing, jet skiing, scuba diving,boating. Rental places are everywhere. But the water is cold year round. Cold enough to give you a brain freeze if you duck under! And people die when they fall overboard from boats into the cold water, so be aware.
Traffic around the lake can be a major pain in summer.
We have bear here, but not usually any problems.

Summer is beautiful in Tahoe. North or South?

I'm not sure if it is north or south. It is at the Marriot on heavenly way or something similar. I don't have it with me. I'm at work. :secret:

Heavenly is on South Shore, so that is what I needed to offer tips. I think you're staying right on the state line which is very busy with casinos and shopping. Camp Richardson is one of my favorite summer spots during the summer (about 10 miles on the CA side). Live music, water activities, bike rental, hiking, etc. If you go towards Nevada there is another similar spot called Zephyr Cove. The Heavenly gondola is a must for spectacular views of the lake. Red Hut Cafe is awesome for any meal, but breakfast is my favorite. I like the location on Kingsbury Grade (NV side). The Tahoe Queen out of Zephyr Cove was always a good time, but I have not been on it for many years. I would also encourage you to head to North Shore (Incline Village specifically) - North shore is more forest and less commercial. Another idea is to go river rafting (its very calm). I lived in the Bay Area for many years, so Tahoe was a second home.
