There's an old saying "home is where your heart is" and for us the Poly isn't it. My boys wanted to try it so I booked it for our trip and upgraded to club level as a surprise for them.
As I was paying the driver upon arrival at the hotel, the bellman started taking our luggage and putting it on the cart and headed to the front desk. When I saw what he was doing I ran over and explained that we were staying CL and didn't need to go to the front desk. He took the luggage off the cart and walked away...aloha to you too!
So there we stood with our luggage, after a short wait a woman approached us, took our name, and confirmed we needed to go to Hawaii to check in. There were no golf carts available so we carried our luggage (plus a case of water) and off we went.
There were two cms at Hawaii, both were too busy to look up and acknowledge our arrival. Finally one looked up, aloha! I had requested first floor during online check in but unfortunately we were put on the second floor with no balcony. I requested a change but nothing in garden view would be available until after 10P??? I though of paying to upgrade but at this point I was so done with the whole thing. I honestly believe the 2nd floor rooms should be a separate category at a lower rate; deluxe rooms IMO should have balconies.
The room was lovely but dark; I can definitely see why Hawaii is going down for a refurb. People say WL is dark, this was worse. I did like the way the closets are setup with the light coming through the doors, very pretty. I also thought the bathroom was well done.
I thought the club offerings were nice enough but nothing great. I'm a big coffee drinker so I was in and out a lot to grab a coffee and frequently heard about things being empty (never knew uncrustables were such a big seller) and not refilled. The chef was very nice but other than that, eh. I did talk with a couple that stays there every year and they commented there were a lot of trainees, service was subpar, and it was a shame that this was our first impression.
Housekeeping was awesome, each and every housekeeper I encountered was polite, friendly, and helpful. The room was very well kept. We did have one problem with a bathing suit gone missing during turn down service, I stopped by their little nook in the morning and within 15 minutes the suit was returned. This was the only person I felt went out of their way during the entire stay, maybe some of them should be trained for the front desk.
All in all I'm glad we gave it a try but won't be rushing back anytime soon. In the end we rated it a 5 out 10, disappointing at best.
