Here are a few hotels that you might want to look into for staying the night(s) before:

Hotels

Four Points (Sheraton) Galveston: http://www.starwoodhotels.com/fourpoints/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=3515

Tremont House (Wyndham): http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/GLSTH/main.wnt?cid=14807

Holiday Inn Resort: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/holidayinnresorts/hotels/us/en/galveston/glssb/hoteldetail

Hampton Inn and Suites (Hilton): http://www.hilton.com/search/hp/us/tx/galveston?WT.srch=1

San Luis Resort and Spa: http://www.hotelsavings.com/booking/1061227

There are many more, but the ones above I have stayed at or know someone who has stayed at them and can recommend that they have nice rooms, and are clean. Some of the hotels on the seawall have great pictures on line, but look nothing like that once you get into the room.

Airports

Intercontinental (IAH) is 72 miles away and has what I call the major airlines (United/Delta/etc).

Hobby (HOU) is 42 miles away and has southwest and jet blue etc.

Towncar

If you need a towncar/limo service , I have used http://www.limousinetowncar.com/about-us.html many times, and I find that they are very reliable, and usually are a little cheaper then most others when I search on prices. I have used them for trips from Katy Texas to IAH and back, and I have used them for my daughter’s prom when she was in high school. I cannot say enough good things about them, and no I am not related to anyone that works there :mickey:

Things to do

If you want to do things in the Galveston/Houston area, I can recommend:

Galveston Area:
Pleasure Pier has just recently opened – but there is a charge to go on the pier: http://www.pleasurepier.com/
Moody Gardens : http://www.moodygardens.com/

Houston Area:
Zoo (next to Museum area): http://www.houstonzoo.org/
Museum Area: http://houstonmuseumdistrict.org/
Shopping area: http://www.simon.com/Mall/?id=805

A general visitor’s guide to Houston can be found here: http://www.visithoustontexas.com/things-to-do/museums/?gclid=CNbykorc8bECFeddtgod9ScAFA

We have stayed at Hotel Galvez in Galveston and highly recommend it. Our family loves it there.

Also things to do:
We enjoyed the duck tour. Those are the amphibious vehicles that take you around on land then drive into the water for a short water tour.

We also enjoyed the Nasa space center in Houston. We actually preferred that one to the one in Florida!

Not far from Galveston is Kemah Boardwalk. Lots of fun! Rides, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, sometimes fireworks and live bands.

There is also an aviation type museum that my kids enjoyed right on Galveston Island.

And don't forget Schlitterbahn water park! They even have an enclosed area in the winter months.

We enjoyed dinners at Fish Tales and Joe's Crabshack. We also had dinner and breakfast at Hotel Galvez which was also really good. And there's a Rainforest Cafe, with a water ride inside the restaurant.

Thank you so much for the help. I think you helped me pick my hotel.

Also, thanks for the limo info. Are we able to walk to activities from the hotel? Also, is there a shuttle to the pier from the hotel? I was also wanting to do a light grocery run befor the cruise. My daughter works on the ship and definitely misses REAL food.

Thank you thank you again. You have been a tremendous help.

Also, she may never speak to me again if I go to Schliterban without her. Wait until she realizes she can go when in port.
