Galveston Port

My daughter is currently working on the Magic and we are considering visiting her this fall. Her home port is Galvaston. We do not know anything about that port. Where do we fly into? How do we get to the port. I've heard it isn't the easiest to get to. We plan to fly in the day before. Should we stay near the airport or go to Galveston? Help. Thanks

I am taking this cruise in September/October and we are flying into Houston (IAH) from LA, then driving down to Galveston to stay overnight before embarkment. A number of hotels are near the Port. We then booked a shuttle to the cruise terminal.

I live by the port. I would fly either into IAH (major airlines) or HOU (southwest, jet blue, etc)

Watch some of the hotels on the strip... Some are pretty run down, but have a major name (I.e. Econo lodge.
