My family of four will be traveling to Disney in August. I would like to plan a surprise for my son's 16th birthday. We will be having breakfast at Chef Mickey's and dinner at Ohana's during our trip. How would I go about ordering a cake? Does anyone have any better ideas for a surprise?

Not sure about your budget, but ... Depending on your son's interests, rather than a cake, how about a tour, one of the diving experiences at The Seas (http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/tours-and-experiences/?resultSet=31&page=1), a meal with an Imagineer (http://www.intercot.com/infocentral/dining/animator.asp) or a ride-along at the Richard Petty Driving Experience (http://www.intercot.com/infocentral/programs/petty.asp)? Or some time at DisneyQuest? These are all things my DS-16 would like much more than a cake. Just a thought.

Was going to suggest the same stuff! Excellent ideas, Ellen!

I agree, a 16 year old will hardly be blown away by a cake. ;)

Oh boy, if I just turned 16 and someone said go drive around that racetrack... I would have passed out! :number1:

Or one of the Segway tours - the one around Epcot was fun!

They have 6 inch cakes at all the TS restaurants for $21.00 plus tax. You just tell them at the podium when you check in that you want one. Most times thought, the birthday person will get a cupcake or special dessert if it is noted on the ADR.

I know 16 is the age of coolness but for my son I presented him with a set of Happy Birthday ears with his name on the back and he thought it was great. Nothing extravagant but something just for him. Don't forget to pick up a Happy Birthday button for him at check-in too.

I just checked out the Richard Petty Experience. Thanks for the great idea. I never knew about this. He just fininshed drivers ed yesterday so this is perfect:party: The web site says reservations are not needed. Price is not too bad. Has anyone ever done this ride?
