ADR question

We are getting close to our 180 day mark and I am super excited about making ADRs! Unfortunately, one person in our party may not be able to go. We are planning on him making the trip, but won't know for sure until Sept. My question is, can we make ADRs including him in our party, and if he cannot make it, call and decrease the number of people in our party without having to book our ADRs over again? I think I've read that if you have already booked your ADRs and want to add another person to your party, you do have to book them all again...is this true?

Go ahead and make your ADRs to include the "possible" person. Depending on the size of your party, it's unlikely you'll really need to make any changes if he isn't able to make it (although you can). Reducing by one is rarely a problem, but adding one often is.
