There are reports online about the sale of Duffy merchandise... Supposedly Disney will be putting a sales cap on the amount of Duffy items a guest can purchase... Starting Sunday, May 6, 2012, guests will be limited to 5 same item Duffy merchandise purchases in the parks and online...

I never knew Duffy was this popular in the States...

I wonder if this is to stop people from buying items and selling them on ebay. When Duffy first came out there were several outfits my son wanted that we couldn't find anywhere on property. When we got home we looked on ebay and there were tons, all marked up of course. Same thing happened for our Christmas trip. Son wanted the Christmas outfit for Duffy. Couldn't find a single one. Logged on to ebay from in the parks just to see....sure enough they were all over ebay, selling for several dollars more than Disney's price (in some cases a lot more than Disney's price), and many of the acutions had it listed as "sold out in the parks". Hmmmm, I wonder why?????

I bet folks buy it and sell to the Japanese on eBay. ;) Seriously though, even with the inflated prices, the Japanese can probably get all the items cheaper via eBay than they could at Tokyo Disney. Everything is so expensive there and those folks are Duffy CRAZY!

I'm not so sure Disney can really stop people from selling items on eBay... There will always be people who will buy from someone on eBay even if the items are available in the parks..

Everything is so expensive there and those folks are Duffy CRAZY!I'm sure that's it. They did the same thing back in the early part of the decade when pins were hot and heavy.

They want them buying the overpriced Duffy's in TDL not "cheap" ones on eBay lol.

These limits can be gamed and will only stop the small timer who was going to speculate in the Duffy marketplace. The dedicated big timers will only be slowed a bit.

I hope my kids don't decide they like Duffy when we go back, because that might change things for me!

I realize that all merchandising is somebody trying to sell you something, but the Duffy thing is just too much. I expect Disney merchandise to be about some character/concept that was otherwise developed (at least partially) for more than just pushing plush. Duffy was manufactured for the sole purpose of moving product. For that reason, I am opposed. Don't be so blatant about it Disney...please.

will they now begin tracking our duffy purchases through the new X-pass system? :)

I have a plush Mickey dating back to the early 90's. He is holding a bear, Duffy? Last week, my almost 2 year old Grandson had a fit because he couldn't get the bear out of Mickey's hands.. I thought he wanted the bear.. so, I cut the threads holding him there and freed Duffy after all these years. Grandson tossed the bear and took Mickey home. Now I'm stuck with that little bear. Maybe I should sell it on ebay. ;)

Not a fan of the Duff, Patricia

I had no idea that Duffy was that popular. We completely passed on the opportunity for buying him two years ago and would have last year as well. However, we went down for my twins birthday. They both shopped for the others birthday and they both picked Duffy for each other. So, they both own one as well as a the sailor outfit.

That will probably be it for us, so I am guessing someone can have my 5 too this trip and next.

I was a cast member in the Disney Stores during the Disney Beanies craze, and during the initial Millenium pins release. Here's why Disney will be limiting: Some guests will buy a hundred of something, then hold on to it for a couple of weeks, and then try selling it on Ebay for a small profit. Meanwhile, a hundred people who wanted that thing can't get it, unless they have to buy it from someone on Ebay. Either way, Disney has guest relations issues. Either because they have now becombe the middle man, or because they have a dissatisfied guest who never had a chance to buy something because somebody was waiting for the store to open (when the Pegasus beany was released, we had almost 30 people waiting for us to open our gate...when we did, we were tossed to the floor...they apologized when they realized they'd injured the people who could ring them up). Disney limits sales, so that more people can get limited items.

When we went last summer, I had no idea who Duffy was. Still don't, except that he's everywhere. I really miss the masks kids used to color in World Showcase. Now, they just get to color Duffy. I'll add my five to the "whoever wants 'em can have 'em" tally. Mass merchandising---:ack:

I did not know that duffy was a hot item. I kinda thought he was not doing well. Some one can have my 5 as well I don't think I will be buying one.

I bought "mickey"s bear" back in 1989-90. This bear looks nothing like Duffy. I like to consider mine the real one.

We have one of the old school Duffy's that was actually blue and called The Disney Bear I think. We also have a regular Duffy. They can wear build-a-bear clothes so they are popular in this house. My daughter only really likes putting them in girl clothes so the one Duffy Epcot outfit we have rarely gets used. I have a feeling that if there are more girly outfits when we go back to WDW she will want them.

I enjoyed reading this one !! When 'ol Duff came out I had no idea who he was. We had to read about him on a sign or something similar, so I knew right then that Duff was retail fodder being pushed on people who didn't even know who he was or is. I don't remember ever having to read a card or a sign to tell me who Mickey, Minnie, or Donald was.....Duffy, to me, is an imposter, not a real Disney character......IMHO, of course !!
