A while back I saw a post referencing a new policy about the resort mugs...something about the new drink dispensers and mugs having some kind of memory chip device.

We bought AKL mugs back when it first opened, around 2001 (I think). We were told those mugs were "lifetime" mugs and that we would always be able to use them at AKL.

Does anyone know if they have implemented any new drink systems at AKL? How do they treat the "lifetime" mugs?

Thanks!

My understanding is, the new drink system has been scrapped.

That's good news. It sounded very confusing to me...especially for us "lifetime" mug holders. Thanks for the info!

Wow, does It say on the cup for lifetime use....I thought those were issued back in the early 90's and discontinued (lifetime mugs), in the late 90's.

1) Mugs through July 2002 are LIFETIME (2001, but some left over mugs).
2) Of course, at the resort they were purchased.
3) If you get a hassle, remind the CM of the LIFETIME buy.

NOTE: We have LIFETIME mugs at two resorts. We have never had a problem using them. Yes, we get some weird looks from other guests using our worn/faded/dull mugs, but that was the promise when you bought the old mugs.

How does one know they have a lifetime mug? I have mugs from Port Orleans and Dixie Landings from before the merge (pre 2000). Can I still use these or was that a special mug one had to buy.

Thanks for the info.

All I know is that when we bought them (again, I think it was about 2001), they said we could always use them at the AKL. And we always ask every time we go..and always get the same answer, that "yes" we can definitely use them at AKL always. They even let us use an old resort mug we purchased around 2009 at the AKL, even though it was one of the generic refillable mugs...we always ask before filling up, and they always say yes, so I guess they aren't too strict on regulating it.

If your mug does not have the new policy printed on it (stating it's good for the length of stay at the resort you bought it at), you can assume you have the old mug.

All of the times I read about the whole debate over whether you can use the same mugs next time you go I never heard anybody say anything about the text on the mugs...and never knew it was there.

We usually get new mugs each time regardless but I couldn't believe I never saw the text printed on the mug before.
