We just decided to take a DCL Alaskan cruise in August 2013. I was briefly reviewing the cost estimates on the DCL website and noticed that the rates declined a bit for each sailing as the month progressed. Any idea why that might be? Decreasing demand, weather related, less activities/excursions?

Thanks!

Yes, between the weather getting colder and the kids going back to school the rates drop the further into August you go

Thanks Tink1! I like colder weather!

Now I just have to review all of the port excursions! I cannot believe how many there are.

Any ideas about which are the best for a family of three with a 7 year old girl? :D

Guess the Brewery in Juneau is out LOL

My kids liked the Medenhall Glacier. We went out to the viewing area and hiked a bit. Went sightseeing with a guide to various spots.

Rent a Wreck is the only car rental in Juneu and we have rented from them once (first time we did escorted tours). The rental car gave us a chance to go where we wanted when we wanted.

Ketchikan we did a trolly tour of the totems that was fun.

Skagway we had a private van take us up through Whitepass and panning for gold. Pictures at the Welcome to Alaska sign. The road goes the same route as the train, is much cheaper and you get to stop and take pictures, walk around etc.

Depending on your budget there are TONS of things to do that kids will like!
