This is according to the Disney Parks Blog page. It is really shaping up now and getting exciting. Can't wait for all those walls to come down, I know that they are testing the attractions. Two of my CM friends will be testing on Luigi's Tires.

This looks so amazing! I can't wait to go. I was surprised to see a Sally car on the RR testing photo! Way cool.

I showed my boys, and my younger son is a Cars fanatic through and through, but he's also a ride wimp, so he has this sort of conflicted reaction to all of it. I can tell he wants to ride this stuff SO badly, but he's scared. Poor kid. Hopefully he'll buck up by November! ;)

From what I have heard CM previews will be late May as well as AP previews. There should be several soft openings as well in preperation for the grand opening. I hope to make several of those AP and soft openings. I will try to take as many pictures as possible and report back.

Do you guys know what type of ride is luigi's flying tires is? What exactly does it do? I cannot figure it out from that pic. It kind of looks like bumper cars but they don't look like they move really.....

It is like the old flying saucer ride from early Tomorrowland. Basically it is like a giant air hockey table. To board the tires are flat. When they turn on the air (giant fans), the tires inflate, They do move. To steer it, you just lean to which way you wnat to move. There is no way to actually steer it with anything but leaning and weight distribution.

While Radiator Springs Racers of course is the E-Ticket highlight of Cars Land, Luigi's Flying Tires will be incredibly popular.

It immediately brings a huge grin on the face of everyone who has been on it during testing (I think you can even notice a smile creeping in on the faces of Bob Iger and Tom Staggs on the Disney Parks blog post). The moment your tire lifts off the ground just taps into some residual pure emotion from your childhood that simply is best summed up as magical.

In the open you can pick up quite a bit of speed and surprisingly responsive to any weight shifts so it is easy to control. There is an additional hand control that allows you to spin (so if you get skilled, you can quickly spot your rival tire pilot and plot a course to bump into them- that is if someone doesn't try to bump you off course)

Hey Mufasa, is the flying tires ride loud?

I would imagine with the amount of air displacement needed, it would sound akin to a jet engine. I hope that is not the case or I will never get my kids on it!

Mufasa
03-09-2012, 04:11 PM
I don't think it is necessarily that loud in comparison with other attractions or especially compared with the original flying saucers (thanks to advancements in technology for control systems).

Mater's Junkyard Jamboree I'd argue is a louder attraction and that is even before taking into account the soundtrack featuring Mater singing his favorite songs for us to um, enjoy?

Omg this sounds sooo funny!

Thanks for the explanation for Luigi's ride...so is the object to hit other people? This looks and sounds like way too much fun! Although I hate flying I am thinking I am going to have to go to Disneyland one more time so that my boys can experience Carsland!

I will be there both on the Media Day, and opening day. I don't do Twitter, but may send some photos to Intercot on Facebook, or to one of the Mods to possibly be posted here, if they choose to. I'm very excited to see it all finished. Buena Vista Street will really change the whole feel of walking into the park.

I'll be there for AP previews as well as opening day. Won't be doing any reporting though. May make a post or two. Who knows.

I'm not all that into going on any of the new attractions. I'm more likely to soak in the whole new land at Flo's.

The new merchandise that I have seen thus far leaves me with a mild ho-hum. The special Vinylmation Monorail cars are very blah (in my humble opinion). I'm hoping there is much more to offer besides the attraction posters too. While I do enjoy those, I don't want to wear it on my t-shirt.

I agree about the merchandise, from the pictures I've seen I'm not very impressed either. I will go to the AP preview of food and merchandise hoping that there will be something good. When it comes to logo merchandise, I'm very particular about the design. I actually prefer a more subtle approach. I'll spend more money on a polo shirt that has a small Cars Land logo on it, over a full screened t-shirt with Cars on it. Same goes for hats.

Will be interesting to see if Mickey's of Glendale has any Carsland items. D23 is having a visit to the Imagineering gift shop on April 14. I usually spent way too much money on these events. :secret:

I stopped by the merchandise preview today. Most of the shirts and hats are things that have been posted online. There were quite a few other things as well, but I didn't see anything that really impressed me enough to buy. I ended up only getting some shirts for my son, and a couple of pins. I tend to be very picky about logo and designs, so I may be more judgmental than others.

Paradise Pier Pinocchio

I am picky too. There weren't a lot of options for adults. I'm not a fan of T-shirts that are almost entirely inked (silk screened). So the attraction posters as T-shirts was out. Don't like to wear white so the sweatshirt was out. Love leather jackets but the patches were cheesy. Love Vinylmations but not into the new monorails. Cars as monorails? Really??

I too only bought a few pins. Had the $ and desire but no quantity of quality.

Also agree. Those were shirts I wouldn't wear. Would have liked to see ones that were polo shirts with a logo. Only think I liked was the poster pins in that box.

Did you guys see the Mad Hatter Party stuff as you walked in? Friend had said that they had the new drinks there and they had pickles as one of the ingredients. I was too scared to try.

I went to the event wearing a long sleeve rugby type shirt with a small original CA Adventure logo on to the top left. One of the CMs commented on my original logo shirt. I told her I wanted something similar to what I was wearing, but of course they didn't have anything like that.

I have heard from someone else who was there that said he was told they do have other items that will be coming later.

I did like the logo on the white sweatshirts, but wished they had other colors. When I went to the cashier to ring out, he asked me if I like the stuff, and I told him not really. I said, the key for me is if I can wear the items outside the park, not just in the park. He agreed.

On my last visit to DL (4/3), I was asking at Blue Sky Cellar. They didn't really know. They said the walls would be up until June 15th. I think they the walls will be down prior to media day on June 14th, like the night before. Hopefull we will get to go next Saturday. Maybe they will have more info then. Haven't heard anything about AP previews yet either.

There are different methods. Sometimes lottery type situations, sometimes contests, sometimes passholders only, sometimes random (right place/right time), sometimes VIP invitation, sometimes extra ticket purchase, sometimes combinations of these. I've been to several soft openings of new attractions, refurbished attractions, and even entire lands. They each were due to different circumstances.

Just a reminder. This area is going to be incredibly busy through at least the holidays since they have plans in place to decorate Cars Land.

I'm going to try to be there on opening day. Will depend on crowd levels. If it is just too crazy, my patience will wear thin. Then I will just head home.

I planned our trip before the opening dates for Carsland, Buena VIsta, and the Matterhorn were announced. Now we are excited and a little concerned to be arriving on 6/16 and touring the parks 6/17 - 21.
The site and app that predict crowd levels say that DCA is going to be a 9 out or 10 and that DL is going to be a 4 throughout our stay. Any thoughts from DL veterans?
We plan to do DCA on 6/18 (my bday) and 6/20, and then mop up anything we missed on 6/21.
Im hoping to be at the park about 40 mins before rope drop on those AMs, and sprint to Carsland. Here are my questions for the DL veterans:
1) will the rest of DCA be packed, or will the throngs just focus on Carsland?
2) will the reopening of the Matterhorn make DL crowded? or just that attraction?
3) the experts have DL at only a 4 on Father's Day... I would think that would be a huge attendance day. That's our first day in the parks - is it going to be a madhouse?
Thanks for any input - 51 days and counting !:number1:

We are planning on going on the 18th as well. The weekend will be insane at CL. LAUSD gets out of school on the 19thl, that is why I chose the 18th. Don't know about Orange County schools. It will still be jammed on the 18th.

I don't think it will be such a big event with the re-opening of the Matterhorn. They will now have single rider lines for that and the loading/unloading is supposed to be faster/easier. No more seatbelts, they will have pull down lap bars. They will have only one to a seat, no more tandem seating. That attraction is usually busy but the line moves fairly fast.

I agree that I don't think the Matterhorn will make too much of a difference at Disneyland. I'm sure it will get a lot of interest since it has been closed for some time. People will want to see the upgrades, and ride the new vehicles, but it will not even compare to Cars Land.

Cars Land will be the draw at DCA. Your trip being so close to the opening, I don't think you will need to worry about anything else in the park, at least when the park first opens. The crowds will definitely head to Cars Land.

The word is that the FastPass machine for Radiator Springs Racers will actually be outside Cars Land, and next to Bug's Land. People can get there Fast Passes there without entering the crowds headed into Cars Land then go to other areas of the park.

Throw the charts away ... Because of the draw of Cars Land I expect DCA to reach capacity that entire weekend, with spillover into Disneyland, so my suggestion will be to start early.

TOTALLY agree with this. Anytime there is ANYTHING new at Disneyland, it's a mobscene. Just expect it. Utilize Magic Mornings at Disneyland if you will be eligible. If not, be at the gates at LEAST an hour prior to park opening. It is going to be a madness like you've never seen before. Think: New Year's Eve in Times Square crowded. Like that.

Thanks for the heads up on the OC schools. Since it is a work day, I am hoping that will keep some of (small %) working people away. I handled the crowd during Leap Day night, and that was total insanity. I think that was worse than NYE.

I also read on another site that they will not be offering fastpasses until after the summer is over. The fastpass machines will be where the It's tough to be a bug machnes are. Talk about adding fuel to the fire. Don't know if this is rumor or not. Hope someone can clarify.

We will hit CL commando style and hope for the best. I am hoping with our plan to be there early to hit rope drop on 3 mornings, we should be able to get in the Big 3 attractions in CL without having to spend the whole day in line.
I started stressing about this, since Im a WDW expert who can do whatever I want in WDW without worrying about lines - but Ive decided to stop worrying and try to go with the flow. Time will tell, and Ill trip report. thanks and keep the updates and ideas coming please :D
