Agenda: Sci-Fi Diner, 50's Prime Time and Yachtsman Steakhouse (MGM Studios today!)
Photos to go along with story: http://photobucket.com/DISNEYmoon7
Today I have planned out the spend the full day at MGM Studios. There are only two real restaurants that we like there and we wanted to eat at both of them, while finishing off the day back near our resort with our first trip to Yachtsman Steakhouse. So to solve the 3 TS meal in one day situation we simply decided to Share at Scifi and 50's.
I knew full well there was NO WAY i would be waking YO! up in enough time to attempt to get fast passes for TSM, so i just made a SCI-FI adr for 11:15am (our version of breakfast). I remember it was a rough morning, neither of us really wanted to get up but eventually we did. I cant remember the exact time but I do know that we had to get to SCI-FI from our Boardwalk room in just under 20mins. By this day YO!s shins and calves were really hurting her in the morning and my shoes well just weren't breaking all the way yet so my feet were still killing me. I must say I have not mastered the paths the boats take around the epcot area so when we saw the boat just leaving as were semi-running up to it I wasn't all that dissapointed. It always appeared that they go faster in reverse, then as soon as they put it in drive the boat assumes a crawl speed. So now the only option we had was to walk. Unfortuantely being only our first morning at the BWI i didn't know the short cuts to walking so we walked all they way around Jelly Rolls towards MGM. The short cut which was right by our room was moot though as because of this morning we never walked again there... Didn't even know that the parking lot was literally 1min from the boardwalks entrance, but we found that out our 2nd to last night :)
So we were walking at as fast a pace as our bodies would allow. Every once in a while i would look back to see if the missed boat was coming to mock us as it passes. Nope, nothing on the horizon and it stayed that way for the entire walk. Could it have been another ill fated titanic? If not, that is a lONG TIME to get from BWI to MGM... almost UNACCEPTABLE! So we went through the security checkpoints and what not I stayed with YO! despite her begging me to go faster ahead and secure our ADR. she could tell i was a little flustered by being late, but even after our last trip...its like a ritual for us to be a few minutes late.
We arrived around 10mins late and really only waited 5mins before they called our names and we were seated in the back seat of one of the cars. Instructed that this is a family dining location so no hanky panky in the back for DISNEYmooners! haha This was the first time i was on the dining plan here so i wasn't sure what exactly constituted as a beverage. Much to our excitement milkshakes were included as a beverage. So we ordered an oreo cookie shake, water and onion rings for appetiser. I must say, this place has very good onion rings. On par with our lunch reservation at 50's PT! For an entree we split that double burger with fries which was both filling and a great flavor! For dessert we had Cosmic Cheesecake which came with a little glow bracelet. Now I have heard that other honeymooners received Mamosa toasts and whatnot, that was not the case here. Apart from the opening comment we received no other special treatment. Not that it was expected just pointing it out for others.
After lunch it was time to bite the bullet and go on TSM. Now this ride blew away our 15mins or less wait times by about 1hr. But i couldn't go back home and face my family who love this ride without going on it this time. The line moved at a decent pace, but disney does a wonderful job of themeing so it takes a bit of bite out of the waiting game. Mr. Potato head was pretty cool, i didnt know unti i watch Modern MArvels (after we got home) that he was programed to interact with humans. I knew he paused for pics, but I though someone was behind the scenes controlling him. As we pushed forward through the lines we arrived at the Fast Pass juncture. This is when our Top Hat and Veil seemed to pay off. The guy at the gate said, "You two! to the right" we were placed in the fast pass line and jumped ahead of least 30mins of people. We were within moments of getting on the ride! Its a rather interesting ride. I like it A LOT better than the WII game my parents have. Something about pulling the string feels much more natural than pushing the A button. I am not sure how our scores rate with others but I had 152,900 and YO! had 109,600. Amazing that our DISNEYmoon head gear and buttons shaved about 45mins off the wait time :)
After TSM we decided to check out One Mans Dream as neither of us had been in there in any of our trips. That was so cool looking around at all the artifacts and seeing how he did what he did! The video was equally amazing and brought a tear to both of our eyes when you realize just how special Walt really was in all of our lives!
YO! had never been on the Little Mermaid "ride" so I gladly escorted her under the sea. Its been about 8 years since I had last been to it and it was just as cool as it was then. the special effects really bring the show to life. Personally I like this show 120% better than the Finding Nemo at AK.
It was after this show that we stumbled upon a CM (DPI to be more specific) that we befriended for the rest of our stay. I have a thread out there somewhere asking everyone if they have any contact with a Photopass girl named CAMI (from South America) well this is her. She posed us several different times and gave us the enhanced balloons but we formed a bond with her chatting about our marriage and stuff for about 15mins. We said our goodbyes and went to secure a spot for the Pixar parade (I want to see DUG!). Since we had a re-up of snack credits to burn YO! ventured off to a kiosk for popcorn (per her, not as magical as the Popcorn from MK) and two drinks. While she was gone I almost had to fight off people for what little spot was left for her. People really have no consideration, I was standing with my legs as far apart as possible and foreign speaking guest placed there kid on the ground almost right between my legs...REALLY?? So luckily YO! came back and we were able to finagle a space for both of us. I just wanted a semi clear view to see just how cool my Canon could be. Looking at the pictures, pretty cool in deed!
After the parade we had about 30mins before our ADR at 50's. Uh oh... we were still STUFFED from breakfast! So that means we have to walk off some more food to make room. We went to the great movie ride because the APP said wait time was 10mins. This was the only time i saw it as being off becuase the real world wait time was posted at 50mins. For the great movie ride? no thank you. Needless to say we never went on it this trip. The always available Muppets ended up being our pre lunch destination. She was amazed that there was actually key under the mat haha, I forget to take a picture of it though, but that was a nice touch! I pointed out the Net Full of Jello and other homages to people.
We couldn't procrastinate anymore, ADR was calling. I messed up the timing for the Indiana Jones stunt show. I forgot that 5:20 was the last showing. OUr ADR was at 4:15 and by the time we were seated it was pusing 4:30pm. Dang, I missed it last time and I really wanted to see it this time. When our waitress came to take our order I noticed she was also helping a family of 12 and another table of 4 who was just seated... Put a fork in it, no show for me. I half heartedly asked if she could do what she could to push our food out and that we were all ready to order rigth now. She said she would try at fire away. Learning from SCI-FI YO! got a smoothie as the drink, I got a water. and then we ordered Chicken Soup for the app since we had onion rings for breakfast. As the entree we got the mamma's trio. Within 5 mins our soup and smoothie were on the table. then with speeds the rival Bavarian Inn (in Frankenmuth, MI) our dinner was delivered. Now the one down fall of splitting here is that the food is just too good the split, NEVER AGAIN! Our dessert, Dads Sundae, came out a bit later and by 5:05 we were paying our bill. WOW did this really happen? we were in and out of a TS in almost less than a 1/2 Hour!!! Score one for the good guys. But, it was rushed and we didn't get our own meal... so actually its a take one step forward and two steps back (TO DISNEY THIS YEAR TO DO IT RIGHT!!! LOL)
We hurried next to door and thankfully they were still seating people. Far left side but who cared. As we were walking a CM stopped us to ask how many people were in our party. When we explained just us two he told us that we were not allowed to sit there, but instead we have to go to the VIP section! Seriously, first row next to the sound board for Indiana Jone?! Yes Please! now THIS is score one for the good guys! The show was great, I laughed when that planted extra was out there because I totally remember him from past trips!! the show was great, just how i remembered it being. So glad we made it!
It was just turning from dusk to dark and that meant the OSBORNE FAMIL LIGHTS!!! both of us were excited to see this. But first I had to go on the re-imagined Star Tours. Ugh, I might be the only person that prefers the old show over the new one. It just wasn't all that exciting and I miss the other driver, C3PO is just not a good fit in the drivers seat. Maybe a fire can bring back what once was new as it did the tiki room. A good thing though was the speeder bike photo opp was back. Last year it was gone because of the construction.
