Test Track

Our 3 year old son had loved watching the Test Track (and Expedition Everest) videos on YouTube. He will be tall enough to ride Test Track when we are there, but would it be too much for him? He will have just turned 3 and will be barely 40 inches (right around 39 now, going in 3 months.)

There are no big drops or the like (as I am sure you know)....and I don't think the speed run at the end would be a problem, especially if mom is beside him laughing to show him its fun....however, lots of younger ones are scared of sudden loud noises and things that jump at them...so the near collision with the truck might unnerve him a bit.

My best guess is if you think he could handle that then he would be okay...if not, then wait a year or so...remember it will be there when you come back.:thumbsup:

Both of my kids LOVED it at age 3. But then again, both of my girls were very tall for their ages, so were able to ride all the height restricted rides at all of the parks. However, they are both daredevils and thrill-seekers, so it was never an issue. Believe it or not, the only ride that my oldest daughter was scared of was the Great Movie Ride. :confused: It took her until she was about 15 to ride it again, then she wondered what in the heck might have possibly scared her.

There are no drops, no scary scenes. The only time the ride even moves fast is at the end (which is really fun), but it's no faster than riding in a convertible on the highway. Unless your child frightens very easily, the ride itself is not a scary ride.

Be sure to put your son in some "tall shoes" to give him an advantage when it comes to Judgement time. The CMs were wonderful when my daughter stepped up to the measuring stick and allowed her (3 yrs. and 1 month) to ride. She LOVED it and was laughing afterwards and insisted on going on again. It was hilarious to sit behind her (my wife and son were sitting on either side of her in the front row) and see her long curly hair flapping in the wind during the outside sprint. I would recommend that you at least give it a try. Have a blast!! :mickey:

IF your son is tall enough - in bare feet - there should be no problem. As far as Test Track is concerned, there is a bit of jostling and bumping going on during the ride, and the LOUD noise of the 'crash avoidance' scene, but those are pretty tame in reality. The 'speed test' is a lot of fun and with the wind blowing in your 'convertible' it give the impression of even greater speed! He should love it!!!! :thumbsup:

If your child has any sensory issues, then he might not enjoy the heat lamps of the corrosion chamber, but other than that there are some jolts and high speeds which he may or may not find fun. Our youngest has been riding since he was 2 (when he loved it), but now at 7 has no desire to ride at all. It all depends on your child.

I echo PopPhan's comments. If your child is not tall enough to ride, then don't do anything to make him taller. Safety is the paramount issue, and height restrictions exist for a reason.

Something to keep in mind...I've seen several rumors that Test Track will be going down for a major refurb next year, and one of the possible time frames mentioned was Jan. - March. Keep a close eye on Intercot and Disney's site and watch for updates or announcements. Most of all, you want to set proper expectations for your little one in case the ride is closed or they don't meet the height requirements.

I can see everyone's point of view on this, but in my opinion if the CM allows it and I feel that MY child would not be in harm then I see no reason to not try. I understand the whole height requirement arguement and I am not one to try and "get one over" on a CM but if it were an issue then why wouldn't the CM ask for each child close to the height requirement to take their shoes off an measure from that. Heck, my daughter was wearing flip flops and was still OK'd to go on. Very easily could have asked her to remove the flip flops to get an actual reading on how tall she is and if she is permitted on that ride.
Really not trying to argue here but I guess that it is at the discretion of whatever CM is working that ride that day. I know that she was turned away at Soarin' while wearing those same flip flops.

I was scared to death on Thunder Mountain Rail Road. I was 5. My mother didn't go on the ride with us. My big sister (8 at the time) was supposed to hold me. Of course she didn't. My dad was too busy holding the giant old school VHS Video camera steady. My mom remembers I was shaking and bawling coming off the ride and yelled at my sister.

I think if you hang on to him tight he'll be fine. Test track is pretty fast but very smooth. Exp Everest has a couple steep drops, but sounds like your kid is a trooper. If he's tall enough wants to do it, I say go for it, but hang on tight.

When in doubt, just ride the attraction first without him, then you'll be better able to decide if he can handle it.

Thank you all. I'm glad to here that some have been riding it since that age. He should definitely be 40 inches by then, so I think we will give it a try. I really hope it is not closed, but I will check in a month or so to see what is closed while we are there. He's not scared easily and has no sensory issues, so I think it will be something we try. If he gets scared before hopping on, one of us will duck out of the line with him.

Please let him ride.

Here's my grandpa advice for this ride with 3YO@40":

Use FastPass unless the Standby time is posted very short. Believe me, if it standby is posted 40 mins it will be all of that and will seem longer to the little guy.
Ask the CM kindly for a front seat - there are just 2 rows, of course but he will be able to SEE in the front seat.
Put him in the middle front seat between his parents.
(Important) Tell him what to expect: There's a cold part and a hot part then finally we get to go very fast! Wow! It's gonna be GREAT!

Thank you Goes4FastPass! hearing that from a grandpa makes me think I should get my parents to go to the park with up so Grandpa can ride with him too :). I will definitely ask for a front seat (didn't think about that he might not be able to see in the back seat).
