We were trying to go to the world the wk of 2/19/12, But was told by a friend the crowd rating for that weed is a 10. Any1 know why? I know its mardi gras for us in Louisiana. Surely, that can't be it. What's going on guys?
Thanks in advance!!

It's also President's Day weekend. Those two holidays together mean a LOT of folks are out of work and school in the south and head to WDW.

We are going the week before, and leaving on the 19th, is that week more calm?

Butters,

You should be okay. The 18th will probably be crowded though.

I dont know about other states, but I know here in Rhode island that is "February vacation" week for the schools. They get that whole week off.

Wow, that explains things. Several states are out of school that week + Presidents Day. Thanks guys for chiming in. Looks like Feb will be a wash. Will just have to force myself to go back in Dec '12;)

Yes, I would certainly avoid Presidents' Day week. Many schools have that week off. Daytona runs that weekend bringing in more folks who combine the race with time at Disney. It also marks the start of the busy spring break season.

It is "Winter Break" here in Georgia and we will be going down for the week! A busy week in Disney is better than not being in Disney though:mickey:

Wow, our kids don't get a winter break unless it snows! I guess I'm glad I am going 12-19. Hopefully it won't be nearly as crazy! My daughters birthday is the 18th so I hope Epcot will be ok. We booked Princess breakfast in Norway!

Actually, in 2012 the 500 is being run later than usual - - Feb 26th. And "Bike Week" in Daytona is even later, in early March. Both of these events used to be held right around Presidents' Day/Valentines Day, and drew huge crowds to the Central Florida area. Why they've been pushed to later dates is not clear.

It's also "Family Day" long weekend here in Ontario. I know several families who will be taking advantage of the time off to head south.

We were in WDW once when it was Mardi Gras and Pres. Day weekend (2007 I think) and it was really packed. We were actually there the whole week before and left to come home that weekend. The crowds seemed to just show up out of no where that weekend!

So glad we wnet for Mardi Gras last year, looks like this year will be way more packed.

Hmmm...my husband follows Nascar and had not mentioned this to me at all. I wonder why they changed their schedule? Thanks for letting me know.
