One way from MCO

I have a unique situation next month where I need to drop my car off at MCO and then get back to WDW. Anyone have a suggestion for a decent priced transport option for one? Obviously I won't qualify for Magical Express.

I'd rent from Alamo. There is an Alamo right in WDW near the Hess Gas station and you can drop it there instead of going all the way to the airport.

A couple of years ago I took a taxi from a hotel across the street from MCO to The Dolphin. It was $45 plus tip.

Ohhh! I think the bus service you pay for is called Mears. Check them out. I saw buses at the WL picking up/dropping off.

A shuttle service like Mears, or a car service like Quicksilver. Quicksilver will cost you about as much as a cab and it's a much more pleasant ride. But yes, if you're looking to keep costs down, a shuttle service would be cheaper.

If you are staying at a WDW owned and operated resort, you are entitled to a trip from the airport and to the airport. It doesnt have to be check-in day, or check-out day.

I've heard of people using DME the day after, or a couple days after arriving at MCO. Recently, I think one of our members did a stay at Vero Beach for a few days, and then returned the rental car at MCO, and hopped on DME to WDW. Unless I'm remembering the trip report wrong.

However, I do believe you have to take the DME over to WDW on your check in day. I don't think you could be in the middle of a WDW stay, drive your car to MCO, and then use DME to get back to WDW.

I'd just do Mears if it's for one person. It's cheap. We used to use Mears before DME, when we were poor college students.

My understanding is that you can use Magical Express fromt he airport the day your are checking in at Disney and can use them to go back to the airport the day you are checking out.

Long story short is, I am staying on property, he is not. We're local and he's flying in from out of town business and just needs the car to get home.

If you are a guest at a Disney hotel, you are entitled to two trips on DME. One from MCO and one to MCO. They DO NOT have to be on the day you arrive or on the day you leave. They DO NOT even have to be from/to - it can be to/from. I've done odd things like this more than once. On one trip we had a rental car, and in the middle of the vacation I had to make a quick business trip and I used DME to get to MCO for a 6am flight. No problem.

All you need to do is call DME directly and tell them what you need. They'll get it all set up for you with no hassle. Everytime I have had to do something like this, the DME folks have been super! But you do need to call them directly. The CMs at the resort will not be able to help you - worse, they will likely tell you you can't do what you're wanting to do.

Okay Steve, great info, but I guess what's confusing me is that I don't have to have a flight attached to my DME reservation?

No you don't. They may want a flight number so they know approx. when you're going to be there, but they don't really need it, and it's not a requirement of the program - unless they've changed that in the last year. All they really need is your resort reservation number.

We've had people use it that joined us 1/2 way through our stay, and others leave early. We add people to our room for our whole trip.

Each person on a reservation gets one trip from the airport and one trip to the airport. To coordinate who's arriving and leaving when would be a logistical nightmare.

Maybe it's a loophole, but it can be done. If they need a flight, search expedia to find one arriving around when you need it. But with flights arriving late/early it should mean almost nothing.
