Just back from the World last weekend. Anyone else disappointed in the merchandise available for the 40th anniversary?? I really didn't find any "must haves" and I was soooo counting on it :(

I also noticed a huge lack in Pooh merchandise - even less than last year although there was a new Pooh movie out in theaters.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Kari

With the dismal state of merchandise in general I didn't have much hope for anything special for a 40th anniversary.

Less Pooh merch is music to my ears. I think there's too much emphasis on the bear anyway.

Not sure about the 40th year stuff, but I do know even the Disney store (local) has gone down in merchandise. They used to have really cool stuff for the house and holidays. Now its just clothes and toys, thats not a bad thing it just used to be fun to shop their for the house. :mickey:

Online too, I would buy cool things for the kitchen, bath, office etc. and now thats pretty much gone too. I guess not enough people buy online

When we were there in August I didn't see anything I "must have". I thought there would be more merchandise than there was. There was tons of things for Disneyland's 50th celebrations.

Last April I noticed 40th getting slowly stocked and actually I found several items that were 'must have' for me...I love the design and all the retro. I narrowed my purchases down to the puzzle, which is a good size and I'm going to frame and hang on the wall..as soon as I get those 1000 pieces put together!! - and the cream background mug. (love the Florida orange bird tucked in a tiny spot on each one). There are several more I decided to wait until November to purchase, hope they're still available! Ok, I bought the keychain too..! There's also a delicate looking mug with a red handle, white background that I'd like a set of, but I'd probably ship those back home as I would dread trying to keep them unbroken on the plane ride home..!

A co-worker just came back from WDW where she celebrated HER 40th birthday. Her only souvenir was a "distressed" T-shirt with the 40th logo on it. She was not too happy with the selections, and she doubted that her shirt would last very long. She said it looked cheap, and I had to agree.

I'm going next month, and I seriously doubt I'll buy any souvenirs or clothing.

It's too bad that Disney has dropped the ball on this issue.

I wonder if they didn't make enough to actually last the year.

When we were there in January, there was quite a bit of stuff, with (it seemed) more being added each day.

DH got a t-shirt, a golf shirt, photo album, some pins, etc.

Overall though, I do agree that there are less "must haves" than on previous trips.

I got a mug that I really like, but that was about all I had to have.

I got some 40th Christmas ornaments in June and my D&B bag in August. I did see a few things I liked but was waiting for November because I save all my reward dollars until then, I hope I didn't miss the boat.

I did get the 40th Anniversary T that was offered online on October 1st. I'm hoping it comes before my trip.

I am heading down on the 31st of October and I'm not holding out much hope for anything outstanding. I hope I'm wrong, but from the Disney park merchandise I've seen at Disney shopping.com I won't be holding my breath.

Over the last few years my family has really cut back on t-shirts and other stuff due to lack of assortment, so it doesn't surprise me on the 40th anniversary stuff

Didn't find much in May. I got the Minnie plush. I was hoping to find the attraction posters photo frame but didn't find it anywhere. The prices are too high anyway.

The only "40th" merch that we purchased was the photo album. I do like to match our album every year to something significant, whether it's a particular celebration that year or maybe a park or character that held special meaning that trip. I do like the "40th" logo tho! We just don't seem to buy as many souvenears now as we used to. Or maybe it's that what we do buy is more expensive so we buy fewer items! lol Can you say Dooney & jewelry! :D

I ordered a 40th anniversary t shirt on line at Disney.com it was only sold 09-28 to 10-1. It just arrived today and it's gorgeous. Cinderella's castle is all in gold and it says 40 years of memories October 1 1971.

We just don't buy merchandise like we used to anymore.
I don't know who makes the decisions about the merchandise at the park, but I wish they would do something about the gift shop at the end of POC. It's full of cheap stuff, it's not very big, and people clog the exits. We can't get out of there fast enough.
