Thanks to Bryant aka MegaDisney for sending this info!

From the DisneyParks Blog (http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2011/08/buena-vista-street-ready-to-take-shape-at-disney-california-adventure-park/):

We are reaching another major milestone in the ongoing expansion of Disney California Adventure park. On Monday, August 29, the Sunshine Plaza area will close to allow crews to start the transformation of the current park entry into Buena Vista Street, reminiscent of what Walt Disney encountered when he first arrived in California in the 1920s.

While the shops will close to make way for Buena Vista Street, guests will continue to enter the park through the new Pan-Pacific Auditorium-inspired turnstiles and follow a temporary walkway which will feature renderings of the future Disney California Adventure park and connect the turnstiles with the Condor Flats area. This area will be the temporary entrance and exit for guests during the transformation of the former main entrance stores to Buena Vista Street.

This entry and exit location will remain in place until Buena Vista Street opens in 2012.

I'm getting very excited about all this now, since it looks like we will be heading back there TWICE next year!

Any word on a more firm completion timeline?

Its Disney. I am sure their target is to have everything up and running for the summer season. :mickey:

Uncomfirmed reports say that Buena Vista street and Carsland will open the last few days of June. DCA may shut down entirely the day before for a private media event much as Disneyland did for the launch of the 50th Anniversary.

I've been to several of the media events over the last few years. I've never been more excited about the one next year for the opening of Carsland and Buena Vista Street.

This settles it!! I've got to go back next year. I first visited DCA in 2008, and except for a couple of attractions, I really didn't care for the park - very strange for me, since I've been a Disney Nut since I was very young. Out of a week, I spent 1 day total in DCA and 5 days in MK, if that gives you a clue.

But, I was in California in April, and what a difference. Even with all of the construction, the changes so far are starting to give DCA that "Disney feel", at least to me. I actually spent several days in DCA this trip and enjoyed every minute. I especially liked checking out the preview of things to come. I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Thanks for the info and especially the map, Michael. The Miner 49'ers said on FB the other that all the guests were being shuttled by their little corner and now I understand why. I'm excited to see all the changes when I'm there for my quick little jaunt in January.

From the Disney Parks Blog:

"Late Wednesday night, Walt Disney Imagineering topped the new Carthay Circle Theatre at Disney California Adventure park with its crowning feature – a cupola modeled after the one which sat atop the historic theatre which was the site of the 1937 world premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” The Disney Parks Blog video team was on hand to catch some great footage of the cupola as it was raised into position on top of the theatre – take a look!"
