Has it really been raining a lot this last week? What do you do when it is really raining at the parks?

When it is raining at the parks, we throw on the ponchos and enjoy the lower crowds!

We've been lucky and haven't had too much rain during our trips, but rainy days at Disney are just as good as sunny ones, especially since it seems there are way less crowds. So, we just brave the weather and hit the parks. Most things are still open, so we just enjoy what we can do.

We did have a super cold and raining evening on one trip, even too much for us, so we spent the evening at the resort, playing in the arcade, getting the laundy done, etc. It was actually a great break in the middle of the trip.

I know many people hit DTD in the rain, shopping & Disney Quest & movies, so that is a great option too.

The rain doesn't stop us either. If it's really bad, we'll go into a store until it lets up some.

During the summer months, there is typically a possibility of a thunder shower on a daily basis. It doesn't mean you will get one but you may. Thunder showers can be quite intense with heavy downpours and lots of lightning. Usually, though, they don't last very long.

We have been here since July 3rd and so far it rained from 3pm thru the nite one nite and 2pm - 5pm another day. We were doing our mid-afternoon break so it worked out fine for us. Today is beautiful. Usually the summer storms are very short.

Well said!

Last trip it rained while at MK. We still had a blast, mostly because we were prepared for the fact that it might happen. We had extremely manageable crowds, cool temps, and we just plain love the rain. :mickey:

That said it is very rarely a complete washout, meaning if it does rain, it is not an extended period of time for the most part, and most if not all things keep running. Grab a bite, do some shopping, ride and indoor attraction or something like the train or TTA, or just sport the poncho and go business as usual. Either way it's just another day at WDW!

3 words -- dollar store ponchos!

we learned the hard way that by spending $32 on ponchos that tore so easily that it's worth it to pack some cheap ones! it was raining very hard everyday most of the day. stunk.

we packed $1 ponchos this time and it didn't even rain!

:rain: We just got back, we were there June 24th thru July 3rd & it rained EVERY single day! Most days it would start raining around 3 & some days it was a brief shower, one day it rained off & on from around 3 pm until about 10 pm! A few days it started sprinkling right at park opening, but that was actually very nice, not enough for ponchos & it was actually nicer than the blazing sun for park touring! Most days rain was light, but a few days it poured buckets, ponchos were useless! On those occassions everyone just took cover & waited out the worst! We used our $1.00 ponchos at least 3 days, thankfully I packed about a dozen! Well worth it!

We use to do ponchos, then one year we found these very light weight zip up jackets with hoods. We've used those ever since, we find they keep us drier, are less cumbersome and we'd give whoever was holding the backpack an XXL and it would fit right over.

But as others have said we never let the rain stop us!
