View Full Version : Perfect Timing Day 5

Thursday, May 26th

I get up and make coffee. Instead of walking around the resort, this morning i sit on our balcony. The lake is completely calm. There are wisps of clouds in the sky. The sound of the waterfall is very pleasant. And again, i can smell a slight odor of firewood in the air. This view is really spoiling me.

Minnie gets up and joins me. We talk about how much we are enjoying this place. And how lucky we were to get this room. Without a doubt, the best we have had in WDW. She tells me she is feeling a little better, and i ask what she feels up to today. "I really love the Nemo show." So it's back to AK today.

The boys are fine with this plan. So we get ready and take the bus to AK. First thing, we get something to eat. At Flametree BBQ. The food is great here. But just as good is the patio at the bottom of the hill, with the view of Everest across the water. Very relaxing spot. After lunch, we get in line for Nemo.

Even 30 minutes before the show, this theater is filling up. Now for one of my pet peeves. As showtime approaches, the CM's tell everyone to slide to the left. A few minutes later they ask again. For sure, there are some who are taking up way too much personal space. But it's really not fair for those of us who got here early, to be made to sit elbow to elbow, to make room for those who didn't get in line soon enough. So i give up a few inches, but keep my position in the center of the theater.

We enjoy the show. Dory was not the best one ever. A couple of her jokes fell flat. But the singing seemed better than usual. So all in all, a good performance. From there, we go to Minnie's favorite movie, It's Tough to be a Bug. Again we have perfect timing, and walk in just as the doors are opening for the next show. Minnnie can't stand the sight of a real bug in our home, but for some reason, she loves this show. Go figure.

The boys now insist we ride Kali River. It's hot, so we all agree to do it. There is a fairly long line, and a steady stream of fastpassers makes it feel even longer. Once we get to the ride, i make the mistake of telling everyone that i never get wet. Bad karma. I escape the first thrusts of water, but moments later, a giant wave finds me and Minnie. She is drenched head to toe, and i am a soaked over half my body. Everyone thinks it's hillarious, especially my sons. Minnie, however, is not amused. Needing to dry out, we get some drinks and relax at the Dawa Bar.

I love this place. It reminds me of the open air bars they have in Mexico and the Carribean. A perfect spot to hang out and dry off if need be. Minnie seems to gather herself. But even after she has dried off, she is ready to go back to the resort. No one else cares one way or another, so we head out.

Back at the Lodge, Minnie wants to rest. The boys are complaining that they are running out of things to wear. So i gather up some laundry, go downstairs, and start a load. Not willing to babysit a wahing machine, i make my way back to the Pool Bar. Today, and every day for that matter, there are DVC'rs at the bar. This time we strike up a conversation. They tell me all the advantages of the vacation club. Very convincing. If i was able to get away for more than one week a year, i would consider it. During our visit, i also talk about dinner plans. Tonight we are going to Whipering Canyon. "Good grief! Made that mistake once. Never again." I wonder if i have made a mistake.

I go back, get the clothes, dry them over one more drink, and take them to the room. I tell Minnie of the DVR'rs reation to WCC. "Last night, when Solo and i were leaving for Epcot, we heard the loudest commotion from that place." Not exactly reassuring.

But i ended up being worried about nothing. Whispering Canyon was great. There were plenty of antics, but nothing over the top. And the food was very good. Minnie and i had the Skillet. The boys had Pot Roast. Everything was tasty. Dusty, our server, commended us on our appetites, and for not needing ketchup.

After dinner, we walked to the boat dock. MK is open till midnight, so we got in the line to board. There was lightning in the distance, and a few families decided not to stay. On the boat ride over, you could clearly see the thunderstorms just a few miles away. But that was as close as they got. Once inside the Magic Kingdom, the threat of storms vanished.

The boys wanted to ride Big Thunder, but Minnie didn't want to start trailing all over the park. So i let the boys go on their own, and Minnie and i sat on a bench in front of the Crystal Palace. From there we watched the new show, Magic, Memories and Me. We had no idea what to expect. Wow! Were we in for a treat. Great effects! How they can wrap all those incredible images around the Castle is beyond me. We stayed put and watched Wishes. Almost anti-climactic after being wowed by the new show. But still nice. It's funny, but we seem to always have a hard time seeing Wishes. I seem to somehow be held up, in a poor spot, or just late getting to the park. But this time, with just my wife, and having a seat, we watch together. Pretty nice moment.

After the fireworks, the boys come back. Minnie is ready to go to the room. Indy, however, is not. After some discussion, Solo is o.k. with escorting his mother, leaving Indy and me to have some time at MK. Indy and i literally skip over to Big Thunder. We are really enjoying ourselves, but a man of my age skipping through the park probably raised some eyebrows. You're as young as you feel, though, right? There is very little wait, so we ride several times.

After numerous rides on Big Thunder, we decide the very back seat is best, then move on to Tomorrow land. We ride Buzz a few times and Indy discovers a gem. We get stuck for a minute right in front of Zurg, where Indy discovers a Z that gives him something like 50,000 points. In short notice he has maxed out his counter. He tells me to shoot there and i too max out. We are now Galactic Heros! Indy makes me swear not to tell anyone which Z is the golden one. Especially his brother. So sorry guys! I'm sworn to secrecy.

After our Buzz adventure, we have just enough time to ride Astro Orbiter. Last ride of the night. Fun, but it's one of those rides that eats adults. It's after midnight now, so we start back to the resort.

Tomorrow is Star Wars Weekends, so we really didn't need to stay up. But i had some very special moments tonight. I have a slight worry about getting up early. But i would do it all over again, and not change a thing. Just like Crush says, everything is better if you just ""Go with the Flow."

I'm lovin' your intro each report - I promise I will savor each morning at WL on our upcoming trip and not rush out of the room! You're giving it the appreciation it deserves!

I'm glad Minnie was able to accompany you today. I had to laugh, in the heat of the summer, we're always begging to get soaked on Kali - even if you have to wring us out when we're done. :D

Good man, doin' the laundry, btw!
Tonight we are going to Whipering Canyon. "Good grief! Made that mistake once. Never again." I wonder if i have made a mistake. I'm glad you did not heed the "warning" and made it to WCC. In our opinion, the restaurant has mellowed out a lot over the years and, especially if you're staying at WL, is a must do.

Beautiful evening, watching Wishes with Minnie and skippin' around the park with Indy. Truly magical, Joe!

Can't wait to read your next post, detailing SWW. :mickey:

Excellent! More 1on1 time, an honorable son escorting his tired mother back to the room, and glad to hear you didn't back out of Whispering Canyon. It's one of our favorite repeat restaurants! Thanks for sharing.
