Forgive me if this has been discussed in the past, but I was thinking about successful movie adaptations in WDW attractions and had what I thought was a great revelation. How amazing would it be if Soarin (However popular it is already) was transformed into an Up ride? You sit in your recliner and travel across the country and world and eventually to the falls.

Just wanted to toss it out there to see what my fellow Intercotees thought.

It could be fun. But I like Soarin as Soarin and I don't think every attraction needs a character connection.

I like Soarin' as it is. I don't think every ride needs a character base.

If you are talking abuot putting Up in Epcot, then no... if you are talking about putting a similar ride system in an Up attraction in DHS, then yes...

I agre with the others.
I think Soarin' turning into Up would be a serious downgrade, but adding a Soarin'-style ride at DHS would be welcome.

Soaring has entirely too many fans, myself included , to be going and changing it.

I agree with DisneyFreak. A new attraction in DHS would be welcome and UP could fill that role. Whatever form it takes though it shouldnt be a copy of another ride. What I mean is that it should be different enough from other rides, ie Soaring or Star Tours, that it isnt an obvious copy just re-theamed. There are a good number of ways they could go so they really dont have to re theme Soaring, just my two cents.

I think it's a fun idea to have an Up ride. I definitely agree with folks that we shouldn't just re-theme Soarin. Especially when you think about where Soarin is - in the Land pavilion. I don't see a strong Up connection to the Land, so I think it would just end up being a sort of "tag along" to the pavilion itself.

I'm all for reusing the basic ride mechanism somewhere else - DHS seems like a good choice. It seems like WDW is shying away from using the same ride mechanics more than once (at least for major rides). But, if you think about it, there is more than 1 roller coaster and more than 1 dark ride, so why not more than one "Soarin" type ride?

I think Soarin' could benefit form having some additional different films, from different parts of the world, maybe random, like the new Star Tours so every ride would be different, but I think they should still be live action, not animated. There is a lot of breathtaking natural scenery form around the world that would be really cool to watch on Soarin'. The Rain Forest, Himalayas, African Savannah, the possibilities are endless.

It's not a bad idea, and one that I have thought about as well. However, as pointed out, there are a lot of fans of the attraction in its current setup. I would be all in favor of what Joonyer suggested and have multiple random locations, like Star Tours. Oh yeah, and make it High Def Digital too, just not 3D.

On this topic though, I think an UP attraction on Main Street in MK might work. The entrance could be the short alley on the right, going toward the castle and would resemble Carl's house from the movie. Once inside, the attraction would use something similar to the Soarin' ride technology to take you on a flight to Paradise Falls and back. Alternatively, they could use simulators that you would sit in and resemble different rooms in his house. Of course, along the way you would encounter Muntz and his blimp, and maybe even some of his pack of dogs.
