May 25, 1960 – Cartoonist Walt Kelly wrote Walt Disney a friendly letter. Best known for his classic funny animal comic strip Pogo, Kelly’s words included: Just in case I ever forget to thank you, I’d like you to know that I, for one, have long appreciated the sort of training and atmosphere that you set up back there in the thirties. There were drawbacks as there are to everything, but it was an astounding experiment and experience as I look back on it. Certainly it was the only education I ever received and I hope I’m living up to a few of your hopes for other people. (Kelly worked at the Disney Studios from 1936-1941.)
May 25, 1968 – Actor Kevin Heffernan, Ron Wilson the bus driver in Disney’s 2005 “Sky High,” was born in West Haven, Ct.
May 25, 1970 – Actor Jamie Kennedy, the evil ice cream man in Disney’s 2001 “Max Keeble’s Big Move,” was born in Upper Darby, Pa.
May 25, 1973 – WDWs “Country & Western Spectacular” kicked off for the first of three days at the Magic Kingdom.
May 25, 1975 – David Kater, a member of the 90’s TV show “The All New Mickey Mouse Club,” was born.
May 25, 1981 – The “Kindercare Center” child-care facility opened at WDW. (A second one opened Aug. 27, 1984)
May 25, 1983 – The “Mickey’s Christmas Chalet” Shop opened in Fantasyland at Disneyland. (Closed May 17, 1987 and replaced by Briar Rose Cottage)
May 25, 1983 – The totally new “Fantasyland” opened to guests at Disneyland.
May 25, 1983 – “Pinocchio’s Daring Journey” opened in Disneyland’s New Fantasyland.
May 25, 1983 – For the first time since opening day, the drawbridge was lowered on Sleeping Beauty Castle for the dedication of the refurbished Fantasyland at Disneyland.
