Hi, are there any Texans out there who have any advice on a route from Texas to Orlando? Places of interest along the way, etc? We are thinking about spending the night in Pensacola. Any advice on places to stay there?! Thanks 4 any tidbits fellow Texans!! :mickey:

Where in Texas are you starting from? Here in Houston, we just hope on I-10, of course, and head east. We detoured to New Orleans once, but most times spend in the night in Mobile, AL--not too far from Pensacola. The Battleship Memorial Park is kind of interesting. Of course, you can stop for an hour or two at one of the casinos in Louisiana or Mississippi!

yes...where are you starting from?

we live in san antonio...day one we leave at an ungodly 4am and stop for the night at the hilton garden inn in talahassee...a very nice place. they also have a lot of dinner options in talahassee. usually pull into the hotel around 6pm. day one is killer, but day two is a piece of cake...sleep in a bit and hit the road again around 8 or 9, which gets us to WDW around one or so.

imho it's a pretty easy drive...lots of bridges to cross and it's fun to see how the landscape changes as you get closer to florida.

Soph and Hans Mom, Which way do you go?? We are about 50 miles from I-10 in Eden and last time we left and went thru Dallas way but came back thru the coast.. Which is quicker. Do you go to Houston?? No way to make it that far is it?? We usually do not stop that early. So guessing we should try and go your route??

we are i-10 all the way to florida!! seems to me that if you go thru dallas you're traveling pretty far north just to come back down south again!! we do go thru houston...if we're out the door by 5 we are usually getting to downtown by 830 or so.

but i will say that most people think i'm crazy for driving such a long first day! we've done it so many times now i can almost do it blindfolded (almost!!). it is worth it to me, however, because it makes the second day quick and fun...talahassee for breakfast and epcot for lunch:mickey:

something else nice about driving i-10...so many towns along the way that it really breaks the drive up nicely:thumbsup:

Thats what I thought.. We stopped and saw the ship in Alabama and that was fun...Ok we shall try that then.. So it will take us another 53 miles to the Interstate at Junction I think we are about 170 to San Antonio we used to go all the time to sell our products years ago. If prices go down on SW flights we will fly otherwise i think driving is going to be cheaper all the way around.. We skipped last year and we are so ready to go again.. Your family is going soon?

...or you could hop on 71 and cut across down thru austin, i think. may be worth a map check!!

we'll be on our way again this summer!

Yea, We went the Dallas way because we were in Dallas or Canton when we left for the trip and came back the Houston way, BUT, I think I was sleeping past there and have no clue how he came. I forget to ask him as well. But I do think it is a bit closer dropping down rather than scooting across the top of all those states.

If you can get to I-45 from the Waco/Temple area without too much trouble, take 105 from Conroe to Beaumont and pickup I-10 there. We always avoid Houston.

We have family in Lake Charles. So the one time we went all the way to Orlando, we took 3 days with stops in Lake Charles and then in Tallahassee.

Come to think of it that is how we went or came back. I remember eating in Beaumont. NoWwaco is not that far from us. We go that way sometimes on our way to sell at Canton. So that is how we will go I am guessing. But, we are going to be in Canton selling that weekend before we go to be there on Tuesday Dec 6. But I bet he goes down to Beaumont and on in that way and come back the Waco way
