When to book?

Okay bear with me....total DVC newbie. :mickey:

If we want to travel to WDW on our DVC membership on 6/23/12 and stay at my home resort. Do I call on 7/23/11 to make that reservation? Or is it like dining and you have to count a certain number of days out?

We're DVC newbies also, but I believe it reads 11 months out, not a specific number of days. Hopefully someone with more experience will answer for certain.
