Mar. 18, 1979 – Disney’s 2-hour TV movie “The Omega Connection” aired.
Mar. 18, 1985 – The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) announced plans to merge with Capital Cities Communications to form CapCities/ABC. The $3.5 billion merger was the 11th largest corporate merger in U.S. history. (A decade and and a few months later, The Walt Disney Co. would announce that it has reached an agreement to merge with CapCities/ABC to form the largest entertainment and television production conglomerate in the world in a deal worth more than $19 billion.
Mar. 18, 1988 – The Disney film “D.O.A.” was released.
Mar. 18, 1989 – At Disneyland, 150 visitors were stranded 40 feet in the air in cable cars. The skyway cable cars came to a stop after someone in one of the four passenger gondolas began rocking the car vigorously! Firefighters from the Anaheim, Orange County, and Garden Grove Fire Departments assisted in the rescue, which resulted in no injuries.
Mar. 18, 1997 – Disney’s half-hour TV series “Social Studies” debuted on UPN. (Ended Aug. 5, 1997)
Mar. 18, 1997 – The Disney film “Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves” was released direct-to-video.
Mar. 18, 2000 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Alley Cats Strike!” aired.
Mar. 18, 2001 – The Wonderful World of Disney aired “Bailey’s Mistake” starring Linda Hamilton.
Mar. 18, 2001 – The world’s 1st ever digitally transmitted and projected feature film premiered of Dimension Films Spy Kids. It is the main attraction at Disney’s new California Adventure. The Boeing Satellite System used there Boeing Digital Camera System to deliver the film to the Hyperion Theater.
Mar. 18, 2001 – “Travel Channel Secrets: Inside Disneyland Paris” aired for the 1st time in the U.S.
