Is the Big Yellow Balloon still operating in Downtown Disney? I did not see it mentioned in the DTD link? Would like to take our 5 year old grandson UP during his FIRST Disney trip :mickey: with Pop Pop & Mimi. Thank you.

Yep, it's still there. It's called "Characters In Flight". It is actually a helium-filled balloon as opposed to a hot air balloon. It remains tethered to the ground, and goes up about 400 feet. Bad weather or high winds aloft will keep it grounded.

Is there an extra fee to experience Characters in Flights?

So glad this is still going on! I didn't see it on the website, and it wasn't in the Birnbaum's guide book. There is a fee, but I can't remember how much.

It's $16 per person and it doesn't take much wind to keep it grounded. It needs to be almost dead calm for it to go to the full 400 feet, otherwise to goes lower. It last about 15 minutes and I thought it was worth it. Others may not.:mickey:

Ok, for a guy like me who is VERY afraid of heights, is this something I should just enjoy the view through photos?

The characters in flight balloon is a good time and is stilll up and running! the only reason why you wouldn't see it would probably be due to bad weather. yes, it gets very high, but the view is non the less breath taking!get in line early:)

I'm passing on it, and I'm only mildly afraid of heights...it does look really neat, but you are quite high.
