Mar. 1, 1986 – The “Safari Outpost” shop opened in Adventureland at Disneyland.
Mar. 1, 1989 – The Disney TV series “Hard Time on Planet Earth” began airing on CBS. (Ended July 5, 1989)
Mar. 1, 1989 – Disney’s combination film of 3 short stories, “New York Stories” had its premiere in New York. (General release was Mar. 10, 1989)
Mar. 1, 1992 – Tim Rice and Alan Menken won seven Grammies for Disney’s “Aladdin” Including one for the Song Of The Year for “A Whole New World” at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards.
Mar. 1, 1994 – At the 36th Annual Grammy Awards the song “A Whole New World,” from Disney’s “Aladdin,” won 3 times! Song of the year went to songwriters Alan Menken and Tim Rice. Singers Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle won for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Menken and Rice also won for Best Song Written Specifically For A Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media, Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television went to Alan Menken for “Aladdin.”
Mar. 1, 1995 – The Lion’s roared at the 37th Grammy Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium. Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male
was awarded to Elton John for “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” Best Instrumental Arrangement with Accompanying Vocal went to “Circle of Life,” arranged by Lebo Morake and Hans Zimmer. The Lion King – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack won Best Musical Album for Children. Best Spoken Word Album for Children was awarded to The Lion King Read-Along.
Mar. 1, 1996 – The Disney Vacation Club resort, named Hilton Head Resort, opened in South Carolina.
Mar. 1, 1996 – The Disney/Touchstone film “Up Close and Personal” was released.
Mar. 1, 1996 – The 102-unit “Vacation Club Resort, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina” opened.
